They Compaq V2000Z only comes with a 200M from the company itself, but since this is a PCI Express Card is it possible to put something like a Mobility Radeon X700 or even an X800 in its place? And if so what's the codename or whatever for these Mobility models?

Very unlikely. You don't want all that heat in a smaller latop anyway. If you want to game, the v4000t has the x700 although a little bigger.

Yeah, as well as a different processor all together. Why do you people suggest random laptops that are only slightly similar to the one I asked a question about?

Well, cause the laptop you want: a 14" widescreen Turion based notebook with the x700 card does not exist.

What exactly are you trying to say? I noted how I knew it came with a 200M, the fact it doesn't exist coming from the company I stated. I asked about replacing the 200M with an X700 and you go off on the usual tangent about a totally different laptop altogether instead of saying whether it is or is not possible. Both cards are PCI Express as far as I know and I only wanted to know if replacing it, due to this identical feature, is a possibility. No mention of heat, I crave heat from a laptop so it's not an issue.

The very first thing I said it was very unlikely. HP would have to come with a card that would fit which to my knowledge they have no plans to do. All the extra heat the x700 produces, in smaller laptop, is not good long term. I just pointed out the Compaq because you seem to want to play games and it will offer a better solution in my opinion. Why you are so peaved that I offered a little extra information amazes me.

The Radeon 200m is not a dedicated graphics card. It is an integrated graphics solution that does use your main memory. I don't think there is even a card you can replace.

Please correct me if i'm wrong

Yes, zeezz and zaz are right, the 200m in the V2000z/L2000 series is integrated on to the motherboard itself. So there is no possibility of upgrading the GPU.

It is impossible to upgrade the GPU in 99% of notebooks. Besides that, HP doesn't want their customers messing around with their laptops, one of the reasons HP doesn't make an upgradeable notebook.

I actually came across the same thought couple of weeks ago. The V2000Z is clearly sexier than the V4000T, and I would really get the V2000Z if it had the nice graphics in it. I even called up the HP support asking them about it, but they said its not possible.

Guys, do you know any 14.1 inch widescreen laptops with dedicated graphics? Thanks

    The Asus W3V has a 64MB X600.

    Compal EFL-30 - 64MB Go6200

    Toshiba M50 - 128MB X600. However I do not recommend Toshiba's - poor construction and quality.

The Toshiba Satellite M50/M55 comes with a dedicated X600 (128MB) and is a 14" widescreen and is fully customizable on Toshiba's webpage. However, I'm not too fond of the M50 series, as they have sub-par build quality. IMO, the only good Toshiba notebooks are the Qosmio line. The Sony BX series is also supposed to sport either an X600 or X700 (I can't remember which one) card as well.

ASUS has one coming with the GeForce 7300 Go, not sure precisely when. Acer's Travelmate 4400 is out now and it's reasonably affordable (about $1100, 64MB X700 GPU).

The 64MB really kills the X700 in the Acer though...Otherwise, great notebook!
