Compaq V2405's Sempron 3000+ CPU is 64bit? I've checked AMD website and it seems like 64bit, but never seen any mention about it on retailer's specs. Someone will give me answer for this?

I don't think semprons are 64bit. The only 64bit mobile processors are mobile athlon64 and turion

Yes - as of now, Semprons are not 64-bit enabled, only desktop versions are. Expect 64-bit Semprons by the end of Q1, early Q2 of next year.

Oh, no!! I expected mobile Sempron was 64-bit too, then V2405CA could be alternative to V2410CA...What is remaining for me? Probably to go Turion64 V2410CA? Well, I have to make some story that can convince Santa Clause!! :-O

The Desktop version Semprons are 64Bit, but not the Mobile 25Watt versions. May the they will start adding 64Bit to mobile semprons too next year, but as of now it only 32 bit.

Semprons are not 64 bit, or atleast are not supposed to be. I have heard on the HP zv6000 and the Compaq R4000 that some of the semprons are actually 64 bit. Apparently something to do with the Athlon 64 chips being made not always meeting the standards of the Athlon 64 but meet the standards of the Sempron but are actually 64 bit. Anyway, there is no guarantee if that is true that you would get one of those. It would just be hit or miss.

R4000 is a different model and uses DTR chips. Not completely mobile chips( not 25Watt version) rather 62 watts versions. Ofcourse actual TDP may be much lower, but that is the base line spec for those DTR chips.

AMD is quietly switching the Sempron line over to 64-bit capable. They don't want to discourage people from buying the Athlon 64 and Turion models but they don't want leftover 32-bit-only inventory lying around at their customers when they make the switch official. The higher speed Semprons at the most likely to be 64-bit capable, but to be certain spend a little more to get a Turion if you want to be ready to run 64-bit Windows Vista (or 64-bit Linux today).

Another reason why 64-bit is cool: VLC struggles to play H.264 1080p Quicktime video under 32-bit WinXP but under 64-bit Linux (on my desktop) it plays with lots of CPU power to spare. It appears to be one of those cases where AMD64 really does double performance.
