Put your reviews, order details, problems and links about the V3000/DV2000 here.

I'd like to start this thread with a first early review.

A quite interesting early review considering you can see the V3000 in video action. They also gave numbers for the battery life, but didn't mention which battery they had on their model. It appears this sexy beast have more than 4 hours autonomy ! I am pretty impress. Too bad they complained about the screen... i was going to pre-order it!!

But I still don't see why they could only give a score of 6.9/10.

    In summary :

    The good:
Strong set of specs for the price; solid performance and battery life; can be configured with AMD or Intel processor; bright 14.1-inch display; includes most of the ports and connections home users need.

The bad: Putting pressure on the case above the optical disc drive results in buzzing noise; lacks Windows XP Media Center Edition option.

    Here's the link http://reviews.cnet.com/HP_Compaq_Presario_V3000/4505-3121_7-31864365.html?tag=feed&part=rss&subj=video?tag=vid&autoplay=true#mgallery

Look at him marking up his screen. It is really beautiful. I'm more interested in the Dv2000 myself.

I like both of these laptops. My main problem with them is they don't have good graphics cards. :p Otherwise they would definately be on the top of my list. :)

I'm just taking extracts from the full review that might potentially be why its rated so low:

In general (if you don't want to read the proof):
    - same looks as predecessors (V2000?)
    - comparable multimedia features on cheaper models, with poor placement (i.e. Dell's E1405 has them on outside)
    - possibly a bit thick (1.5")
    - keyboard jammed together compared to Thinkpad Z60t's
    - slippery glossy touchpad
    - speakers w/o bass, muffled when closed!
    - monitor not as crisp as Thinkpads
    - no standard Type II PC Card slot
    - no dedicated video card
    - Apple has better charging equipment
    - noisy optical drive with hand on top

    PROOF:
"Looks aside, however, the Presario V3000 sticks to the same basic script as previous Presario models..."

"If you're looking for a slightly stronger set of multimedia features for a similar price, check out the Dell Inspiron E1405..."

"just shy of 1.5 inches thick..." (I'm putting this for nuances)

"ThinkPad Z60t's keyboard, which is a bit less jammed together..."

"...the glossy touch pad felt a bit slippery for our taste."

"Altec Lansing speakers...lacking on the low end; unfortunately, the sound becomes hopelessly muffled when you close the laptop lid."

"we prefer the Inspiron E1405's more complete set of controls, which, again, are conveniently placed along the front edge for closed-lid access."

"the picture wasn't as crisp as we would have liked."

"but still short of the magnificence of Apple's MagSafe plug."

"it lacks a standard Type II PC Card slot."

"when we laid our right hand down on the case above the optical drive, the CD that was playing buzzed noisily."

"though without a dedicated graphics card, we can't recommend it for serious gaming."

Edit: Full Review can be seen here

Lol, my heart is so torn. XPS1210 also captured it. But the Dv2000 is more practical with the 14.1" screen. I don't need much in the way of graphics.

I'm actually attracted to the swirling design on the palm rest. To be honest I'm not sure about it ontop of the lid. It's one of those things I'll have to see in a store with my own eyes before I buy. Hopefully these will end up at Bestbuy life current models. I find it amazingly unique and over looking it, the shape of the laptop is awesome. I can't wait to see one in a store so I can examine it closer. Not to mention the Dv2000 has more features listed. That's enough to sell this computer over the V3000 to me. I hope the keyboard is not so cramped at the review said. Current HP keyboards have an excellent feel.

uhh, with regards to the CNET review, I would take it with a grain of salt. As you can see with the quoted remarks, just because some other computer companies such as Apple's magsafe come out on to the market, everything else is inferior now. Huh? They did the same with the cowon X5, a nice mp3 player and compared it to the 5gen ipod when it came out during the 4gen ipod. CNET has been know as a kiss#$@ towards certain companies and I would say wait longer for some reviews from some other sites instead of CNET.

personally, i think the cnet reviews are a bit biased....aka hp didn't pay them enough to get a better review. i mean to say that it is bad design to move the speakers to the top b/c it muffles the sound when the lid is closed.....i think it is more likely to muffle the sound while you are typing with the speakers positioned at the front of the laptops. in fact, i think this is one of the things hp owners have complained about. there isn't much reason to keep the notebook lid closed when you want to listen to a media direct cd, but it is kinda difficult to avoid muffling the speakers when typing. also, the graphics card may not be dedicated, but they fail to mention that it's still a better graphics option compared to what is available in the e1405. and knocking it for not having a type 2 pc card slot, though i can see how it is annoying, is lame considering most new laptops are making the change to express card.

Sometimes in some of the professional review I laugh at the common sense thing like. OMG, the sound is muffled when you close the lid! It's not like I'm surprised by that fact when I see the speakers up between the hinges and the keyboard somewhere. Open the stinking lid! Thats a great idea for a poll. Who closes there lid to listen to music? It is more annoying and harder to avoid muffling the speakers when they are positioned in the front of the palm rest. My left arm is particularly always over the grill of my Dell, when I turn my arm over I can see the imprints of the little wholes. The e1405 doesn't have a PC Card either does it? I thought all the newer Dells had (cheaper) express cards.

I always look at the user reviews. Sometimes CNET will give an item an 8, then users will average out to a 5.9. On the L2000 CNET gave it a disappointing 5.3, while users averaged 8.5. Who you gonna trust - someone who looked at it for a couple hours, or a lot of users who own it! I wonder how much advertising affects the rating?

I am hunting down some reviews for the nforce 430 and nvidia gf6150.

Apparently this setup has been there since the socket 754 days. And now nvidia is recycling it for the new turion x2. What a waste.

The graphics card should be upgraded to something more current generation. The gf6150 has 2 pixel pipelines and some ppl have said 32bit memory. Thats insane!

Yeah. I mentioned in another thread about the V3000 that I've found CNET very subjective and biased. However, the GPU seems like a really downside :|. Shucks. Yo DJPharoah... if you get some info that might prove it's not 32MB you'll be my lifesaver xD

Yeah, and I dont' see why Cnet gave a better score to the V2000Z. Sure, V3000 is not a big upgrade, but it's still a bargain laptop. Might I say 'A bargain laptop with atttitude' ;)

What I want to see now :

    - A complete and unbiaised review. I like those from laptop mag and pc mag. Short but informative.
    - More infos on the dedicated GPUs for v3000. Bench that sh_t!
    - Most importantly : A v3000 with a AMD TURION X2 Battery torture test!!

Bring it on HP! Any idea on the shipping dates ?

The DV5000 and V5000 came out at the same time when they were release. I think it's well within the realm of possibility both will appear on HP's website at about the same time. I won't put my money on it. Ofcourse, I'll add a few week for a store appearance. I would perfer to see them in stores before I make any decisions about them. As much as I have fallen in love with the Dv2000.

I would of made it all the way until next year. Had my old Toshiba not been killed and had I not found this awesome forum that throws all these cool new models into my face. I don't see how I'll resist splurging once I have the cash.

why dont you guys way till november and wait till they offer windows vista free upgrade option. So you can get the laptop early and when vista comes out they send you an upgrade CD.

where are you getting information that they will give you a free vista upgrade? That sounds pretty ludacris to me considering the profit margin on notebooks and the fact that a microsoft product and free were included in the same sentence. I heard that the Nvidia card will be go6150 and the ATI is an x1100. From what i heard the go6150 give performance similar to that of an integrated card :( . Has anyone heard about the X2 release date? will it be the same day as the core duo or later?

    1. Why do you think Vista is going to be out in November? Sure, MS says it will, but they also said it would be ready in 2005.

    2. Why would you want to run Vista as soon as it comes out? I am personally waiting until SP1 hits before I even consider installing it.

I think you should wait till the first benchmarks and full detailed reviews come out as then you dont have to think about what is really going on with the laptop. Also with Vista, im actually happier with XP than going to Vista since XP is ok as it is now, and extra graphics and search capabilities dont intrigue me.

You guys are getting me all wrong, I know Vista will not be out by Nov, but when the time for it to come out. Alot of companies usually do a Pre-Vista program. Meaning they will give you a free upgrade version of Vista if you purchase your computer from there now. They usually do this promotion a few months before the the actual version ship. They did this with XP and Windows ME, and its not ludicris for them to do this, the upgrade version are always cheap. especially to OEM companies. They must have cut a deal with MS for this promotion and ofcourse MS wants people to switch to Vista as soon as possible. so it doesnt sound as ludicris as you just mention.

i also happen to know, based on a discussion with a microsoft product rep that there is almost ZERO chance this will happen based on recent anti-trust rulings. If they can't bundle office with their OS, how do you expect a court to allow computer companies to give customers the new OS for free? I mean no disrespect, it is just simply not going to happen.

Believe it as you must, but I think its going to happen. How are you bringing in this anti trust ruling into the equation. Whats so anti trust about giving customers free OS? There not giving you a free OS, your paying for the Laptop and getting the pre Vista OS promotion. Its the Computer manufactuers that are giving you the upgrade Vista CD. And the TOS agreements would most likely say once you get the new OS your old XP license is void. The computer manufactuers do this to entice you into purchaseing the computer sooner rather then later. Also they might do this to sell more computers before the chirstmas season is over.

I just dont know where you are getting your source but i think its wrong. Even dell did a pre OS sale of there X50v with the older OS and mailing the Windows Mobile 5.0 out a few months later.

And you believe what you want. The anti-trust issue has to do with monopolizing the market. But giving the user an updated operating system, you are detering them from comparing the OS to other OS on the market. Its quite obvious what it has to do with anti-trust issues. We will see what happens, but as you said, believe it as you must. Lets let this threat return to discussion that pertains to the upcoming Hp/CPQ notebooks!

Looks like they have been officially released, and after looking at the prices the V3000 only costs maybe $100 over the dv1000t when similarly configured.

HE would give me ZERO answers outside of AMD processors are coming and he wouldn't acknowledge the graphics questions other than to give me a press realease that promises GO7200 and Go6150...

Just spoke to another rep. He put me on hold to ask someone about the Go7200 on the DV2000T. Came back, said today is a prerelease and June 6th the card will be available.

Hmm, June 6th AMD is having some big analyst meeting, plus it's the start of Computex Taipei. Should be an interesting day.

I'm attempting to customize a new DV2000T. However, it appears that the model only comes with BrightView and not a matte screen option. Is that going to be the case permanently on this model, or will be Matte option be available when the full release is made on June 6th? Anyone?

Guess we have to wait until June sixth. I was dissapointed to see the 7200 wasn't up yet on the Dv2000t. I wonder how much the option will cost. I configured a decently spected unit for $1419.60 without the 7200. However, maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot find where to configure the warrenty which is usually at the bottom of the first page.

does anyone know if this MATTE screen will be just a regular, old matte screen or a premium (upgrade) one, like Apple's?

There is no matte screen option on these two notebooks.
