    Hi guys.
Just read the main page on NBR and I think I might have found my new laptop.

The specs from the main page.
    Compaq Presario V3000 Specs:

-Choice of Intel or AMD mobile processors, including Intel Centrino Duo, Intel Centrino Solo, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core Solo and the upcoming AMD Turion 64 X2 and Mobile AMD Sempron processors

-Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 or Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 operating system -- Vista capable
-Available with Intel UMA graphics with up to 128MB shared video memory or NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics and NVIDIA nForce Go 430 chipset with AMD processors
    -ExpressCard 54 slot
-IEEE 1394 and up to three USB 2.0 ports on select models
-Fast hard drives with up to 120GB sizes on select models
-Integrated wireless support for 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN and Bluetooth technologies on select models
-Available with integrated DVD, DVD/CD-RW Combo, DVD R/RW drive with double-layer support or LightScribe DVD R/RW SuperMulti drive with double-layer support for silkscreen-quality, laser-etched(13) labels for DVDs
-5-in-1 digital media reader on select models
    -Weight of about 5.4 pounds
-6-cell standard and 12-cell Li-Ion battery available for additional battery life
    -Altec-Lansing speakers
-Estimated U.S. street price starting as low as $1099, $999 after a $50 mail-in rebate. All notebook pricing is before a $50 rebate, depending on the configuration ordered. Intel based systems are expected to be available for purchase in May direct from www.hpshopping.com, or by calling +1 888 999 4747 and select retail outlets nationwide. AMD based systems are expected be available in the first half of 2006 from the same outlets.

This laptop looks amzing. It has a nice industrial black look, which I love since i use a lot of thinkpads. Also it seems like that the LCD hinge is like the ASUS V6J and MacBook Pro in that the LCD hinges lower than the back of the laptop.

    What do you guys think?>??

I think it looks nice. The only reason I wouldn't get it is because the graphics card is weak. Otherwise I would definately pick one of these up.

Agreed. If they were to put the geforce 7300/7400 in the turion setup I would jump on it.

However since the Turion setup has the ultimately weak gf6150 i might get the intel duo core with the optional go7300

The GeForce 6150 is far, far better than the Intel integrated GPUs you're probably used to. The 6150 is a bit better than the ATI 200M and the ATI part is about 3x faster than the Intel GMA900. I don't think the difference between the 6150 and the Intel notebook's 7200 is going to be all that great. AMD's HyperTransport removes the FSB bottleneck that the Intel notebook have, lessening the shared memory GPU performance penalty even more.

Saving the decent dedicated GPUs for 15.4" and 17" notebooks is probably wise. Whether HP will offer decent GPUs with such notebooks is still an open question. Too bad they don't read this forum (AFAIK?).

Hmm, nVidia lists the memory types used by the Go 7200 as n/a. Huh? That makes it sound like a shared memory version of the 7300, which can't be right... Edit: HP says "discrete", so there you go.

hmm, any guesses on how the video card( nvidia go 6150) would handle slightly older games like Warcraft III? and any speculation on when in may the notebooks would be available?

Hp has put the date of 5/24/06 on the dv2000. I dont know whether both versions(dv2000,V3000) will be available on that date. The AMD based systems should be available a little later or maybe they might launch it on the same date since AMD has announced May 23 as the date for release of their new socket(AM2).

I would look Turion X2 with 6150 for my next laptop. V3000 feel much solid than a SONY like dv2000.

But I probably wait till 4th quarter to let both HP and AMD bug out defacts.

I think it's a hit. I thought about getting the W3J, but with a sturdy and appealing look at it, I just might get it (as a student, it's easier on the wallet as well). I think it should be sufficient to work on older games like Warcraft III.
