It might work at 800MHz for the AMD version might but there arent any gurantees, I would guess it will most probably not work at 800MHz but would downclock to 667MHz. The Intel version of the laptop will definately downclock it to 667MHz since memory wont run faster than the FSB. On the other hand it might not even work in both systems(AMD & Intel). At ~$200 for a 1GB stick it is way too overpriced and you can probably get 2GB DDR2 667 for far less than that and get better performance.

It would be fun to find out, if expensive. The CPU should be happy with it but the motherboard and BIOS might not be. I seriously doubt HP has done any testing with DDR2-800 memory. AMD chips really, really like high-bandwidth memory so if the notebook accepts it the performance difference should be measurable. Worth ~$400 for a matched pair (Turion X2's are dual channel capable)? Umm... probably not. For the money I'd buy 2GB of DDR2-667.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turion_64_X2 Don't know if I would trust this info but someone thinks DDR2 800 will not be supported until the 65nm Turion comes out. It's just too much to gamble. Some of the desktop boards state they do 800MHz and they are having issues.

Well, offically AMD does not yet suppor DDR2 800 with the Turion. But given that AM2 dual core processors do support it, it is unlikely that AMD would just disable it here. For example some 90nm Athlon64's supported DDR 500 even though that memory did not even offically exist. So, it is a possibility that they might include DDR2 800 support but since the memory isnt widely available made then just advertise support upto DDR2 667.

But as I said before, if you are not willing to take the risk, then do not buy it. Also by the time DDR2 800 will become mainstream the prices will go down and might as well wait till the prices are cheap enough to try.

miner, I use DDR500 in my dual core Opteron 939 desktop and it runs great. :)

I purchased two 1GB DDR2 667 modules earlier today. I also purchased a Hitachi Travelstar HDD. The laptop seems pretty snappy with only 512MB but I uninstalled all the extra stuff and have yet to install VMware and move my virtual machines on the laptop.
