well since this is already the hp and Compaq forums i might as well spare the trouble of going to another part of this forum where every one doesent have the same notebook as me.

any ways, since i already dual booted my notebook^ with XP and Vista, i was thinking of getting 2GBs of ram because it takes forever for vista to load on my notebook even though there are (very very very) few programs on startup, plus i want to play more new games without lagg:D i would like to get it from newegg. but i have no clue which type or brand to get. i want to get the 1gb x2 so i am sure i can dual channel. cause i have heard cases even if you get the same 1gb rams but buying it in separate cases it wont dual channel.

also is it worth getting a new hard drive? cause i am running out of space in my 60 gig. i am thinking of getting 160gigs because the rpm wont make any much difference, (as I've heard). also is it possible to duplicate the hard drive even if it has multiple partitions?

if that does not work then i might just delete XP and duplicate vista. to the new one. but if that does not work, can u uninstall vista and re reinstall it without problems? such as activation problems?
(The only reason i still have XP is cause not alot of my programs, device(drivers) are not supported by vista, but i think vista is better than XP just turn off all the *****ing and nagging that it does:D )

Stick with major memory brands like Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, even PNY and OCZ. Since you have the Turion based system, get Crucial for best compatibility; Newegg usually has great deals. You need 200 pins, DDR2 667mhz
Hard drive - the speed of the hard-drive will decide your boot times for Windows and programs (games). If you have 60gb, 4200 rpm, don't be surprised it takes longer to load Vista...more RAM will not be the decisive factor here.
As for the operating system, you can try and back up your activation files, if you plan to re-install Vista but it may or may not work on another HDD. I know the activation files for XP but I don't use Vista, so I can't help you with that. For XP those were WPA.bak and WPA.dbl in System32 folder.

Here's the crucial memory. Take a look at what other people with Turion x2 CPUs bought, it may help you decide.

Your computer uses SATA connection (let's just say it's the newer, faster technology than ATA). The hdd you've selected will work but you may want to look around the hardware forum for the most popular type of HDD, I believe there are quite a few threads about it.

I currently use the Crucial sticks on my v3000z. They work fine except it works only in single channel and 2T command rate. But in any case going from 1GB to 2GB is a bigger boost than either single channel or the command rate. It would have been perfect if those 2 worked better but I'm not complaining, the RAM is rock solid and no stability issues.

On paper...it looks good. Corsair's aren't too bad. Value memories use some lower quality chips but most of the time there shouldn't be any issues with them. Fry's seems to have a good return policy. I would say try it and see if it works in your system.
