    I'm posting under a friend's name.

I placed an order for a decent Compaq V5000Z just a few years ago, but I want to get an additional 1 gig stick of RAM.

What kind does it need and what sites do you recommend I buy from?

    You need SO-DIMM (200pin) DDR-333 or DDR400(better, faster)

Stick with known brand. Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, OCZ, etc.

I was here a week or two ago before I ordered my laptop and a few people wree reporting problems with the memory they were putting into their V5000Z's.

Have you installed this memory sucessfully yet?

    Cheers
    Don

I've been running them in my dv8000z, which is essentially a dv5000z with a bigger screen, for a couple of weeks now. I verified the memory with MemTest86+ too (which is always a good idea when you upgrade memory). No problems. Crucial has been the most reliable brand for me so that's what I recommend.

so what would happen if you were to put in two sticks of ddr2 - 533?

edit - nix that - sometimes it helps to use the search function

I put a stick of 1gb Transcend 333mhz in my v5000z and no problems.
