I need some helpful information to replace my Compaq V6000 AMD motherboard to an Intel. i am one of the victims of Nvidia GPU failure and i need to replace my motherboard to Intel. The original motherboard part number is 443777-001. i am aware of replacing amd cpu and fan to an intel which i have it on hand. i check Hp support and there are several intel motherboard numbers available to get such as part number 434725-001 but not sure if its the right part.

Interesting idea, so I took a look at the manual (US) here:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035886.pdf

The first thing I noticed is that the AMD MB part number that you provided (443777-001) is not listed in this manual (US) but a quick google comes up with a full-featured MB replacement. The Intel MB part number you provided however (434725-001) does match and indicates that it’s Intel full-featured. Looking further into the idea, the manual seems to only make the following distinctions for most of the major parts.

Intel – full featured computer models
    Intel – defeatured computer models

AMD - full featured computer models
    AMD - defeatured computer models

The base enclosures (15) for these units do not distinguish between AMD or Intel motherboards (11) but does distinguish between full-featured & defeatured enclosures. Therefore, it looks like as long as you match the motherboard (11) to the base enclosure(15) it will work. By that I mean:

AMD or Intel full featured motherboard to full-featured base enclosure and associated parts. or
AMD or Intel defeatured motherboard to defeatured base enclosure and associated parts.

The other areas where distinctions are made are:

    (9) CPU - Obvious
    (6) Fan / Heatsink - Obvious
    (20) RAM - though I have no idea why unless they use different speeds
    (4) Keyboards - by county and also by AMD & Intel dependent on where you live
*(18) Wireless mini-cards - AMD & Intel systems have distinct part numbers and may also need to be changed.

So… looking at it appears that as long as you keep everything either “full-featured” or “defeatured” including the associated parts it should work, though you may also need a new wireless card. No guarantees however…. just an observation.

Hope that helps.... and best of luck with your repair.

Thank you for your helpful insight. i did check HP hardware maintenance manual and its really obvious to replace cpu, Fan/ Heatsink. I also noticed that intel have 3 Chipsets 945GM, 940GML and 943GM and it varies on cpu support, bus speeds. I bought the compact at Bestbuy several years ago and its a US Model. RAM is Samsung module DDR2 667mhz so i think it will run well on Intel board. I found the Intel motherboard on Ebay for $115 US Dollars and its cheaper than buying AMD board. The only problem i can face here is that i can not use my Recovery cd on the new motherboard since HP has been tatooing the serial number of the board to its License OS. Is there anybody on this forum who can provide me a disk to update the serial number from the old motherboard to the new board?

I think your best option is to just use an OEM, retail, or borrowed version of XP or Vista that matches the version that came on your notebook. Not only is the motherboard serial number a problem but so are all the incorrect drivers and software from the AMD to Intel swap. Even if the Recovery media would run it would likely be a big mess.

Use the license key on the underside of the notebook to re-register the OS with Microsoft. You may have to call them to get a corrected key, but if you explain to them that you had to replace the MB they will allow it and either give you a new key or let you continue to use the old OEM one. Install the drivers and you’re good to go.

I don’t know if your unit is XP or Vista but as a note, I did a re-install of XP to a friends notebook not too long ago using my retail XP disk and his Gateway notebook. When I got to the enter license key part, I entered the key from the bottom of notebook and of course it takes you to another page that says to contact Microsoft. However at the bottom of that page there is another opportunity to re-input the key. I did the key input a second time from that page and it worked without picking up the phone. Perhaps this will work for you and perhaps not, but even if you have to call and explain the situation they should give you a key. Be sure to write it down.
