I was going to buy a HP laptop but then all the negative chatter about Vista I am now getting the Compaq V6700TX with XP Pro and 2 gig ram. Now that it's on the way I am getting some negative feed back about Compaq. Confused!!!
    Any thoughts?

It's going to be really slow with 2 megs of RAM.

    Lol lol lol lol

With any brand you buy, you'll find people who say it sucks. It's all personal choice.

Huh??? XP can easily run with 512 megs(not gigs) of RAM, so 2 gigs should be more than enough for XP to run well. Now, with Vista, you'll need t least 2 gigs of ram for it to run well.

As for Compaq, you're going to hear bad things about any brand of computer, not just Compaq. I say go for it. You'll be hard pressed to find a cheaper notebook that comes with Windows XP these days.

Compaqs and HPs share the same parts and chassis.

There is nothing wrong with the v6700TX. If it had a dedicated gpu option, I would take it hands down over the dv6700T counterpart........

I've heard that fingerprint readers can be pretty quirky to use, so I don't know if you'll miss it or not.

However, I definitely think you made the right choice just for the fact that you've downgraded from Vista to XP.
