    Hello,

I have a broken X1000 that would refuse to boot into the bios, i was on a train and think it went into hibernation and now refuses to boot, there is however, activity:

    - Lights such as wifi, power all are on
    - HDD spins up and the activity light is flashing
    - Weird issue with ODD as it seem like it searching the disc even though there is not one in the drive
    - no beeps (not sure as think i hooked the speakers up correctly)
    - the screen is blank, but when power it down the screen with flash white for a split second

Initially i came to the conclusion that my graphics card was broken as there are so many issues with the X1000 and now have 3 in my possession of which none work. I also tested the following:

    - using external screen and still nothing
    - reseating the ram and using the 2 different modules in different sockets
    - tested the hdd on external drive and confirms to work ok
    - tested odd on external bay and confirms as works ok
    - the cpu gets warm so could be ok but not sure as havent tested this on another machine
    - shone a light on the screen to test for backlight issues but its just blank still
    - tried booting from usb thumb drive and floppy but doesnt seem to even recognise them

Any thing else i could do? I did think the lcd cable could be an issue as look a bit worn, however, dont think that would stop the notebook from booting? may try anyway as only 5 gbp.

any help would be great thanks!

    Bump

Anyone? Have also tried with a new BIOS battery to no avail. Have also pressed the power button for 30 secs with the battery and AC connector disconnected to wipe the BIOS but still nothing

As mentioned earlier wont boot from USB floppy or flash but it does flash as if trying to read (both tested on another comp and are fine).

Have you tried turning the laptop on without the internal harddrive? Had similar symptoms with a Dell Latitude D610. Before trowing it out I took the harddisk out and turned the laptop on for a last try and presto... the BIOS was shown.

In this case, more than 50% (my opion) is graphic card as you mentioned.

thanks, have turned on the notebook without the hdd, but to post you dont need a hdd in anyway.

i think graphics card also but unlikely that 3 graphics cards are duff; i know the final one i had was tested as ok according to seller, have heard things about teh computer in continual hibernation though in the bios
