Is there gonna be a new Compaq X1000 anytime?

I have this computer and in my opinion the best laptop with the best screen -everything is so detailed and sharp.
Now when I´m must upgrade my laptop I really can´t find any computer as good as this one. I have tried dell vostro and sony vaio fz laptops and none is as good as the Compaq X1000 series.Especielly the screen (I don´t know if it is because the vostro and sony are using nvidia graphic card and the x1000 an ATI CARD....).

So do anyone know any laptop as good as the x1000 series?-(the screen is very important to me thats why Im so picky)

I also came from the X1000. I loved that little laptop and would probably still have it if the motherboard wasn't dying. btw RIP x1000 you served me well for a little over four years. I think the closest thing you can get to it is the 8510p. To me the screen is pretty good. It's a little off-color compared my LCD, but that's because I don't know how to calibrate my laptop without one of those tools you buy. Plus, I calibrated my LCD. It is much brighter than the X1000. Sharpness wise, they seem about the same. I had a WXGA screen in both laptops. I couldn't see any difference between the two when I had them side by side transferring my files. However, colorwise, the 8510p produced a truer white than my X1000. This could have been due to the X1000 being older. The reason why I loved the X1000 was the excellent balance between power (for its time), portability, and cost. The 8510p, to me, seems to echo that balance. I doubt that HP will ever make a Compaq like the X1000. Compaq really has fallen off the map to me. So I suggest getting the 8510p. The build quality is much better than the X1000 and it has a great balance.

    Thanks for your answere.

Yes indeed x1000 is a superb laptop and everything U wrote about x1000 is so true, I couldn't said it better.
Oh and it reminds me how damn good the speaker is compared to todays laptops speaker which IMO is crap.
But it is sad that Compaq aren't doing a x1000 version 2, which I think is a bad move. (When HP fused with compaq everything went baaaad...)

Anyway , gonna take a look at 8510p because my sony vaio fz is not sharp enough!

By the way does the 8510p fan sound a lot ? The x1000 were death quiet.

edit: Aww man it is wsxga , that to much for me damn, everything gonna be so small. Guess I´m gonna pass this computer.
My last alternativ is to buy a seperate lcd monitor external and use it when using the laptop at home.

You can get the 8510p with a WXGA, that's what I have installed for exactly the same reason. The WSXGA is just too small for me. My eyes are bad enough. The fan is on pretty much all the time. Fortunately, if there's any ambient noise at all, the sound is drowned out. For instance, I just have my window open and I just noticed the fan was on when I read your post. There are times when it gets loud, but those happen under pretty much the same circumstances where my X1000's fan became audible. So yes, the fan is on more, but it's not really a problem. Right when HP took over Compaq I knew Compaq was done for. I definitely loved my X1000. I even concerned just replacing the motherboard even though it would have cost 600. That said, my 8510p is MUCH more powerful. I was surprised at how fast it boots up.

The X1000 was the first notebook produced after the HP Compaq merger. The first of the platform sharing between the 2 brands.

I had an X1000 too before replacing it with my current nc8430, which I think is the closest replacement for it. The X1000 was definitely one of the best notebooks of its time. It was a business-class notebook which was offered at consumer pricing. During those days, there was no consumer vs business class bull as we do now. The Presario X1000 = Pavillion ZT3000 = HP Compaq nx7010. Unfortunately, HP decided to segragate their product lines and make an absolute distinction between entertainment notebooks and enterprise notebooks in terms of features, built-quality and support level and profit more along the way. Actually, I think this concept is industry-wide as Dell was doing the same thing with its Inspirons and Latitudes.

We use our X1000 and NX7000 laptops as backups, we have had them for 4 years and they still work fine. We used the nw8440 and 8510p as replacements. The nw8440 at least enjoys the same resolution screen. There have been bugs with the 8510p's.
