I am considering purchasing a new Compaq X1000 series notebook, and was playing around with it at CompUSA, and I noticed that I couldn't tap the touchpad to select, I had to click the buttons below.
I found it interesting because I was looking at the HP ZT3000 series and it had the "tap" feature on it, and aren't the two notebooks virtually identical?
My question is does the X1000 have the "tap" feature? [possibly it was just turned off?]
Also, what's the big difference between the X1000 and the ZT3000, I'm leaning toward the Compaq because I've had good experience with them and the quality seems a tad better than the HP. What do you guys think?
P.S. Check out CompUSA's trade-in program, it's quite awesome!!

Yes there is a feature you can turn on in the HP software for mouse control, and this lets you control all kinds of things.

My ZT3000 has also come without the tapping utility. As far as I know some HP systems come without the software for tapping that I can't understand why? And the awkward side is, as you are saying that zt3000 in the compusa has tapping utility while mine does not have. Maybe, compusa installs a third party software in some laptops and that x1000 was forgotton to do so. Does anybody have accurate idea on that? I remember there was a topic in which people were saying that some HP comes without the software and we have to install softwares which is not bundled with the system!

Mine and all the ones I tried at the store had the software installed, however if you overwrite and do a fresh install without reinstalling some of the software it wont work.

That's wierd, the ZT & X series should have come with the Synaptics driver. It's located in the Control Panel. You just have to enable the option for tapping. If it's not on the system, you may want to check out HP's download site and download them. You may also want to check out the Driver/App Restore CD that came with your system, it may be located there.
Here's the link to the Synaptics Driver on the HP Site for the ZT3000

Also, the ZT3000 & X1000 series are based on identical platforms (systemboard, etc...), so generally, they are the same unit. They're casing is different colors, but they mainly use the same software & components.

Thank you Venombite, I tried to set it through "Start/Control panel/mouse/Device Settings/Settings/Tapping" and it works well now!
