As of this moment, the Compaq X6000 notebook is nowhere to be found on HP.com any more. Does this mean it is finally time for the AMD 64-bit version? Really I don't think so, but I wish. Either it is just removed from the lineup temporarily or it has been discontinued?? I thought it was fairly, or at least semi, popular?

I don't think there'll be a new notebook like an X7000, I think they've just run out of parts for the notebook.

Or there aren't enough people buying them to justify separate zd8000 and X6000 lines.

They'd have a lot more people buying them if they'd build an Athlon 64 X2 version. VoodooPC has one, as does M-Tech (same Clevo D900K platform). Get in gear HP.

I hope there is an A64 X2 version soon! I won't count on it though. There would have been a press release

Well there was a press release like a month ago that most of the notebook lines at HP/Compaq would get and AMD based option. I'm beginning to think that is not going to happen though...

But yes it would be nice since other than far superior performance a Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 also use less watt and dissipates less heat than a single core P4, LOL!!!!

They probably discontinued it because the X6000 was self-detrimental, taking customers who would have otherwise bought zd8000s anyway. Just my guess.

Possibly, I like to think we'll see it reborn with a PM chip.

Agreed. Most people don't need P4s in their notebooks anymore, period.

Intel makes them an offer they can't refuse.

I want to see HP use Athlon 64 X2's in a zd8000-type machine. Less power consumption than the P4's they've been using and so much firepower... :D Dell already has a Pentium-M gaming notebook so what's the point of HP building the same thing?

A Pentium 4 in a notebook is not practical in the first place. It makes for a very hot notebook, with less than an hour and a half of battery life, and plus they're huge and heavy.

I don't think anyone is going to miss the X6000.

Yea, we'd all love to see an Athlon X2 in a notebook, but it is very iffy as to wether or not HP will do it, and if they do, it will still probably have a slow graphics card in it. The Radeon X600 in the X6000 wasn't exactly cutting edge, merely a PCI-X version of the Mobility 9700. As far as I can remember, that card couldn't play any games above XGA due to its slow GPU and meager 4 pixel pipelines. A real shame because the X6000 had a beautiful widescreen with a WSXGA+ option.

Maybe HP is trying to drop the Compaq line? It would ultimately save them money in the long run I think.

I think theres still a lot of people loyal to the Compaq brand. They should really put an Althon 64, Turion or Pentium M into the ZD8000.

Athlon X2 with GeForce 6800 Ultra would be a killer option.

nVidia was gushing about AMD on their earnings conference call last night, talking up the new AMD chipset they're building and the AMD Turion. I'm a little more confident that my theory (WAG?) about HP waiting on nVidia's new chipset and mobile 7-series GPU for a zd8000 replacement is correct. If so, I have no idea when such a beast would be released.

Dell's earnings report didn't go over so well. They don't sell AMD.
