I have a Compaq V2000 that I have been told to "look at" it currently acts like a brick

    Does not post,
When you push the power button, the fan spins up, hard drive spins up, lights on the keyboard turn on. No video from screen or with external screen.

If I pull out the ram, it DOES give the beeps of no memory.

Can anyone provide me some guidance?

Oy, sounds like my problem with my laptop. I would look into making a Crisis Recovery Disk. It looks like someone updated BIOS with the wrong firmware and now it really IS a brick.

You'll need a floppy disk, USB floppy drive, and a copy of the old BIOS (should be 512KB or so). Google for instructions, I can't think of them off the top of my head. I do remember seeing a thread on NBR about it however.

Tell me if it works. I want to sell my laptop after I get a new one, so it won't hit the wallet too much.

fn+b win+b or both + b does not produce any floppy activity.

Perhaps it is a true brick.

    Edit
Ram in slot 0 = dead
Ram in slot 1 = life

    Other issues:
No backlight... ordered new inverter and hope it will fix it.
