Hi,
I have a Compaq V2000 series laptop, bought it 2yrs ago. This past weekend the LCD screen went dark all of a sudden. I opened my laptop and tried to login, I could barely see anything on the screen. If I look very closely I can (barely) makeout what's on screen. I did some research online. Looks like either the video cable, inverter board, or the backlight bulb might be the culprit. Any suggestions on how can I fix it for cheap? I don't want to send it back to HP/Compaq, it will probably cost me more than $500. Any one know of any repair places in/around NYC area? Or reputable online repair shops? Or if I have to do it myself, where can I find the parts for cheap (apart from eBay)?
Thanks.

Make sure you have the firmware updates. I remember on my X1000 that there were times when it did that, but after I installed the firmware update addressing that issue, it went away. If it really is a hardware problem with the screen, I don't think there's an easy fix for someone without that kind of knowledge. You might want to contact HP about repair places around your area.
