    This laptop has a DVD-ROM drive in it. Does compaq make a replacement dvd-rw drive for this laptop?

    Hello jjh and welcome.

    After looking at the DVD drive spec for your notebook, there is a slight chance the modern slim DVD-burner will work. However, due of the size of it, I am not sure it will fit. I suggest that what Awesome laptops said, try to get a external DVD burner. It is much easier to install and work with.

    Thanks guys, I've used an external drive, but didn't want to drag yet another box around. Thought there might be a drop-in replacement that became available as the presario line evolved.

    It is possible to upgrade the drive, however it may not easy for you if you dont know how to get inside of your own notebook. I had done it with my Dell Inspiron 1150, CDRW/DVD to DVDRW. The drive I got was from newegg.com. Its works awesome but of course, I have to switch bezel from the old drive to the new drive.
