Can anyone comment on the reliability of a Compaq 2199us?
I just purchased one for my wife at BB for $649.
    (Athlon XP 2800, 512mb ram, 40 gig hd, 15", CDRW/DVD combo etc..)
She'll be using it for mainly working on MS Word and Excel.
Seems like a lot of notebook for the money.
I purchased a slightly slower HP Athlon notebook with only
256mb or ram back in February and paid considerably more.
I have 14 days to purchase a three year warranty for an
    additional $250.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

You got a pretty good deal I think for the money. I'm not sure about reliability, but it does have a 1 year warranty right?
Extended warranty's are a rip off to the customer and the sellers biggest profit margin and $250 to extend the warranty by two years, thats an additional 38.5% charge...That's rediculous! If your notebook lasts it's 1st year it will probably run for several more unless you drop it, and in that case the extended warranty won't help anyway

    Compaqs are great on reliability.
And I wouldent buy the extended warranty on a computer that costs $650. If you bought a $2000 laptop than it would be a better idea.
