I'm about to customize and purchase the Compaq v2000. I know exactly how I want to configure it except for the battery. I'm going to be entering grad school, so I'll be toting it around a fair bit. I'd like the longer life of the 12 cell battery, but when I called hp, they couldn't tell me how much the 12 cell would add to the weight of the computer. The guy I spoke with had no idea, but guessed about 1-1/2 extra pounds. That seems like a whole lot of extra weight and since he didn't really know anyway, I thought I'd see if anyone else knew approx how much extra weight it would add.

so you're saying that with the 12 cell battery instead of the 6 cell battery, it brings the weight up from 5.21-lbs to about 10-lbs? wow!

At least get the extra 6 cell battery. You only get 3.5 to 4 hours and only 2.5 with WIFI on. The 12 cell will give you about 6 hours without WIFI and 4.5 with WIFI.

I have the 12 cell battery.
It weighs atleast one and half pound and protrudes one inch below the laptop.

    titan ,you are right.
I feel i should have gone for two 6-cell batteries rather than one 12-cell as the 12-cell is very unwealdy and heavy.
