    Hi everyone,
I have a compaq v2000 series notebook and I am having trouble with the card reader suddenly. I have never had a problem using the card reader before and all the cards I try it with work except a recent sandisk 2 gb micro sd card that I am using a sd card adapter with to make it fit in the card reader slot. I bought this card to use as for storage on my new cell phone but for some reason everytime I try to access this particular card with my card reader windows explorer freezes up. First I unpacked the card, put it in the adapter and inserted it in the card reader, I went to windows explorer to open the "removeable drive E" and it asked me to format the card so I did. Well my laptop froze up in the formatting process so I closed everything and started over...now everytime I try to open/right click on/or format the drive for the card windows freezes for a long time before giving me any options and everything I try to do with it either results in an error message saying the drive is inaccessible or corrupt or for formatting it always says that formatting the card has failed. Just to see if there was something wrong with the card instead of my card reader I inserted it into my digital camera, formatted the card successfully, and was able to review the pictures on the camera also. I also tried formatting the card in the camera and then trying it in the card reader but I still got the same errors. What I can't understand is that I have the exact same micro sd card but 1 gb instead of 2 and it works with the card reader without a problem even after I can't get this new one to work. Anyone have any idea about what might be going on here? All I can think of is that something got screwed up when the first formatting froze up and failed but the card worked fine in my digital camera after that so I am thinking it might be something with my card readers hardware or something.
    Thanks for any help!
    Dan

Hmm...Cant be of much help but it might just be the card reader is not capable of supporting high capacity flash memory.

BTW do you have the latest drivers for your card reader. If you dont downloadthe latest version for your system from HP's website. There is an updated driver for the V2000(pentium M version) which adds support for 2GB SD cards.

thanks for the input miner....I'll check the drivers although my v2000 has the AMD Turion 64 bit processor, wonder if it would still work.
