I have been thinking about getting a Compaq v2000z and was wondering about memory. I have a 1 gb stick of 533 DDR2 ram. I was wondering if I could use that and just have it running at a lower speed? Thanks for your help.

if it's 200 pins it should work. Try it

edit: oops! If she says so, then it probably won't work. Sorry, don't want to confuse you.
Now that I think about it... is there any DDR2 200pins at all?

actually- i take it back... it could work =x

but I doubt it since they use different configurations and voltages than DDR1...

uff. Let's make it clear. There could be 200-pin DDR2 and you may try it. It should work at a speed depending on your BIOS /200 mhz max/
Yet, most newer chips are 240 pins, which will not work. Sorry for the confusion :)

breezie & vassil - You guys are a confused lot. lol

scarylemming - Nope DDR2 wont work in a DDR slot. It probably wont even fit as the dimensions are slightly different & also as others have already said DDR2 uses lower voltage than DDR. Another reason is that AMD processors do not support DDR2 memory.

    Yeah, you need DDR PC2700 memory - 200-pin So-dimm's.

I believe you can use PC3200, but it really doesn't make a difference.

If you go with the Pentium M version, the v2000, you could use the stick.

Thanks for the help. Just one more thing to consider while making my decision.

Nope, you can not use DDR2 with V2000z, even if the pin configuration is same( I think lock position is different, so it won't even install). Even if you are able to install chances are memory will be fried because of excess voltage( DDR vs DDR2).

As ZAZONZ mentioned, you could use it V2000 P-M based laptop.
