    I may be purchasing this thing tomorrow from circuit city. They have a great deal, and it is only $1099.00 after rebates. I just want to make sure that its "small" amount of RAM (512mb) is good enough for most of what I am going to use it for.

    I definetly need a "zippy" computer and will be using apps like Minitab, Matlab, mathematica, and various coding compilars (Turbo, Visual, and a few others). This along with the normal usage of IE via wireless, word, excell and some others. Will it make a big difference shelling out for 2 512mb modules instead of he 2x256 that comes installed?

    I will also be buying a 40GB 7200RPM drive to repace the internal...

    Any advice is appreciated.

    I wanted this to be a Poll, really.. I'm not sure what I should do..

    1) Keep the 2x256MB configuration
    2) Upgrade one of the 256s to a 512
    3) Upgrade both to 512

    4) Upgrade 265 => 1 gig

    although im not familiar with those listed programs and if you need the extra ram. most computations should be quite sufficient with 512. i would just hold off until you recieve your laptop, you'll probably be fine.

    Yep, I agree with boom, get 1gig RAM to replace the 256MB. This way you maximize the potential of the laptop. Also since it has integrated graphics which can use up to 64MB system RAM.

    But if you feel that spending for 1GB RAM is out of your budget then go for the 512MB upgrade.

    Even if some of those programs do not use the extra RAM, the 1GB RAM will definately improve overall performance.

    Hm... Maybe I will.. for some reason I was thinking that Dual Channel was operational on these notebooks..

    This a good deal? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820155111&ATT=Memory+Notebook+Memo&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r

    it would make more sense to get 1gig (+ 256 other slot) than 512x2 in my opinion. i also didn't know it was integrated graphics so more ram may be necessary. regardless, give it a whirl first [ :D]

    enjoy!

    I think I'll see how it faires first with the 512mb. If not, I will upgrade to 512x2. Thanks.

    Just got the v2220us today. It is a fantastic notebook, and it seems my next door neighbor has a Linksys wireless BG router [ :D]

    Anyway, that RAM linked in the above post, is it a good deal? Im thinkiung of buying it.
