So I went to CompUSA this past weekend and saw both of these notebooks for sale. The Compaq sells for $1200 after rebates and the HP $1350. Both have almost identical specs except for the HP having the QuickPlay feature, remote, earbuds, and a LightScribe DVD burner. Is all of that worth the extra $150? If I got the Compaq, then I could spend the $150 on a 12 cell battery.

I've heard reports that the HP is better built or the Compaq is better built and all that. I've found the Compaq's keyboard to be more flimsy and I like the textured touchpad on the DV1000. Which one would you guys recommend??

Depends on whether you use quickplay, the remote or the lightscribe often or would miss those features. If you dont then saving the $150 & getting something useful is better idea.

The keyboard on the Compaq, IMO fells the same as in the HP, other than the color I see little difference. The touchpad on the other hand the HP wins, as after a period of use the toughpad on my Compaq has started to discolor and kinda looks ugly...

    Hi Rahul,

I've ordered dv1000 online without lightscribe.
Lightscribe is neat but it's slow and CDs are expensive.

Personally, I didn't like the keyboard and the look of z2000.
It's also the same form factor as L2000 I'll return. So I was also
    concerned about heat/noise/fan issue.

So asiaimran, you're saying you owned the HP L2000? And by z2000, you meant the v2000 right?

I'm wondering, could you please tell me why you didn't like the keyboard?

    Hi Rahul,

Yes, I meant v2000. It looked outdated, like the keyboards from 80s.
In touch, it was fine. The bigger concern was the fear of heat/fan on v2000
as it's exact same as L2000 with just different colors. Ofcourse v2000 has
    PM, whereas L2000 has Turion.

I'm not happy with L2000 due to left side getting warm and annoying
fan turning on frequently. I hope dv1000 is better in heat mgt.

There's two versions of the Compaq V2000, the V2000 with the Pentium M and V2000Z with the Turion. I think only the V2000Z gets hot and the fans keep on running constantly.

I'm just going crazy over this because I like the look of the DV1000, the remote, the QuickPlay yet saving $150 by going with the Compaq looks pretty tempting as well.

The L2000 keyboard is very good; I'm not sure what the complaints would be.
