Hi there! This is my first time posting here, so please be kind...

I have a Compaq v5000z, with the 1.8/512 L2 Cache Turion 64 and I absolutely love it - with one exception: I can't read the CPU temperature, with ANY program. I've used everything from MBM to something made specifically for AMD.

I've searched these forums, and LOTS of other places, and saw lots of posts on this issue, but never any answer. So... has anyone been successful in seeing their temps?

If it helps any, I've got BIOS version F.33 (no A next to it... is that a different version?).

Oh, and this wouldn't be such a huge issue, but I want to install Linux on this, and ever since my SO burned up his lappy due to a problem with the temp readings and ACPI, and seeing the problems he has with ACPI and stuff on his new twin to mine (he has Debian Testing 64 bit, but has the same problems with Gentoo and OpenBSD), I'm nervous about it... but at the same time, I want to be able to USE my 64 bit as such... not to mention using windows XP is about to drive me nuts...

    Thanks in advance!

Newer HP models(v5000,dv8000) seem to do this. I dont know why but no one in this forum have been able to get the temp readings. maybe its the BIOS or maybe there arent any sensors in the first place.

The sensor is built into the CPU. MobileMeter reads that sensor via ACPI, so I'm guessing that HP's BIOS ACPI implementation is broken.

I've the feeling this is not unintentional and I think it has to do with some protectie measures on HP's side. I guess many people started asking questions about the temp of the laptops, a lot of them undervolted their CPUs...and yet HP does not offer any kind of power management tool.

Yeah it's kind of inconvenient to not be able to see the temp. I just would like to be able to know if it's overheating.
