    Hello
I found something at the hp website.
Their specs. Now, it seems that the main difference is that the HP allows you to choose a nVidia 7400 graphics card while the compaq doesn't give that option.
so, if you're paying less for a compaq with same specs go check if the graphics card isn't different, the nvidia should increase the price by at least $100..
    Tha.

dv2000 is a smaller laptop(~5lb) and has a 14.1" screen compared to the dv6000's 15.4" screen and ~6+lb weight. Prices will vary and sometimes it can be cheaper or costlier, so dont go by the price when comparing the laptops.

Quality wise both laptps are the same. The compaqs just have a different design and are usually sold with integrated graphics while the HP's are available with dedicated graphics plus other options like the webcam which are not available in the V6000. If you are comparing a dv6000t with the integrated graphcis card and a V6000 with the same integrated graphics card(CPu, RAM being equivalent as well), then both laptops will have the same performance.

I would stay for away from HP as their customer service is TERRIBLE. It's by far the worst I have ever experience. If you have a problem, you are a totally screwed. Let's just say I had a LCD crack, it took 3+ weeks to get my laptop back and it was NOT EVEN FIXED. They are in total choas. No one answer phones and you can't get anyone live. And this is when you are dealing with people in the US. Their call centers in India are even worse. Buy a DELL.

My experience so far is that their email support is on the ball and has relatively speedy responses. Their in-warranty repair service uses prepaid, prepackaged overnight FedEx shipping. So everything up to that is incredible. Where they suck (in my experience) is repair service. My DV6000Z went in for repairs, was at HP for 1 day, and was returned with an extra 512MB RAM... but the problems weren't fixed!

    I'm giving them another chance.

Anyway, the difference between the DV6000 and V6000 are threefold: Cosmetic, Upgrades, and Accessories.

The Pavilions are entertainment notebooks. So they include fancy finishes, better upgrade options (like dedicated graphics, microphone, webcam, fingerprint reader), and stock accessories and features (like HP earplugs, ExpressCard bay remote, quickplay).

The Presarios are budget notebooks. So they are more plain looking, not as nice of upgrades, and not entertainment focused. But the base parts are identical.

    Wrong again... on some counts.
You had better go down to Best Buy or where ever they sell both Pavilon and Presario's and look. Because I picked Presario over the Pavilon for three reasons:
    1. Better looking notebook. They've changed that recently... very attractive and I liked it better than the Pavilon.
    2. The only difference between the Pavilon and Presario choices was the GPU which was moot with me.
    3. Price! Presario was cheaper than the Pavilon.

My last two notebooks were Pavilon's and I liked them. But this time, the Presario was the better notebook for me.

I actually bought an HP dv6000 at first...but I found out I didn't like it that much...so I took it back and got a Presario V6000 instead...the only difference between the two was that the dv6000 had a little bit bigger HD which is something I didn't need...I use my EHD for that...

Indeed it is...and hopefully sometime in the near future I will able to upgrade the battery to a 12-Cell and the RAM to 2GB...

I bought a Presario because I wanted the video card and I expected the quality to be better then the Compaq. I love my laptop but recently speced a Compaq v6000 for my mother in law. I spent some time with it, (Burning recover disks, doing a clean Vista install, installing open office) and was very impressed. The fit and finish is every bit as nice as the Presario, the design looks great and feels great. Unless you do a lot of gaming, video, graphics or photo work I would recommend you save the $100 and buy the Compaq, it is a nice machine.

I do a LOT of graphic & photo work on my compaq and it works flawlessly. I think the 2mb of memory makes the difference, not the the video card or using an intel cpu. I'm using my notebook everyday for 8-10 hours too. I think having the latest/greatest cpu/graphic cards is waaay overblown. More of an ego/bragging thing than anything else.

I've owned over 25 notebooks since my first one in 1985, so I think I know what I'm talking about.

Exactly...I definetly agree with the whole overblown thing...just because they say that something is better just because of the price, "quality", features, etc...doesn't mean jack diddly squat! Everyone has their own preference, opinion, and idea of what is "better", suitable, and more convenient...so it's just selling tactic's to try and get you to buy the more expensive thing when you most likely won't end up with what you REALLY want...(and need)

I use my computer for making/watching videos, music, graphic's (pictures), the net, and some small but hard-core gaming like the DOOM trilogy (which is one of my favorite games) etc., but as far as other game's go, I have my Wii for that...so until I can get more RAM I will only have limited performance on this awesome notebook computer...

When I first got my compaq, it only had 1GB of memory and then I upgraded to 2GB of memory.... a very BIG change in performance! Getting the 12 cell was a big plus too.
