    Hi,

I want to buy a compaq x1000 partly because I was in Compusa the other day and I really liked the wxga screen quality compared to the other major brand wxga's. But I just heard that various Compaq x1000's screens were made by various different manufacturers (samsung, hitachi, etc) and the dot pitch's / brightness / etc. vary according to which manufacturer made the screen. I'm worried now that the one I'm ordering will look different than the one in the store. Is it just a toss up as to what screen brand your getting and does anyone know what brand screen they have been including recently? And can you really tell a difference?

    Carr6446,

I don't think you'll notice much of a difference. I had an NX7000 which I needed to be swapped, I had them advance ship a new unit to me. When I received the new unit, I found that the latch closed better on my old unit then on the new. Well, in order to swap it out, you have to disassemble the LCD. When I did that, I noticed that the LCD's were different brands, but they looked exactly the same. I didn't really notice any quality/brightness differences. So, I say you shouldn't have to worry too much. IMHO.
