To all those users who have Compaq V2000z with Turions how is your laptop's performance overall - are you satisfied with it or wish you got something else?

Any of you consider the DV1000 but still chose the V2000z? Why did you choose v200oz over any other?

Does the Fan, Heat, loud keys really become bothersome?? ANy problems with its durability/screen?

If you have the 12 cell - are you happy with it or do you wish you stuck with the 6 cell??

Im about to purchase mine right now at hpshopping so any advice would be awsome!!

    Thanks!

I don't own a v2000z, but I have seen a couple. I think they are good budget laptops. I though the screens and keyboards were pretty good. The case is a little plasticky, but at that price point, you can't expect better. The ones I was had the 12 cell, so I can't comment there. It didn't seem too noisy, but I wasn't looking for it. I'd recommend the 5400RPM hard drive for better systen perfromance. Good Luck.

I bought mine little over month ago and I like it. See my signature. So far so good. I think it is very good value. Battery life expect about 2:30 Min average. ( from 2 hours to 3 hours based on usage). I think centrino based ones may give you 30-40 min more on same battery. But you get more performance for same price. It has better Integrated video, a 64Bit processor, making it little more future proof.

L2000 and V2000z are the same thing in different cases /l2000 bios recognizes it as v2000z/. I bought mine a week ago and am very happy with it. Some people reported heat but I believe this is just mismanagement of Power Options; undervolt it and forget about heat problems.
You may want to read the memory conspiracy thread if you wish to upgrade your memory; no dual channel here, however. DV1000 is heavier and has the Intel video card which is poorer, but it depends on what your needs are.
    Get L2000 and live strong!

I too would choose my V2000Z all over again. I don't have heat issues as others have complained about, (no, I'm not undervolting), the 12 cell battery is great and the keyboard, touchpad, screen (minus 1 stuck pixel), and durability are all satisfactory. After rebates, I got mine for $800 plus another $100 for the memory upgrade. You can't beat that price for the performance you'll get.

Is the 12 cell battery worth the extra weight?

I've owned one for a few wks now.

Cons: too heavy to carry around with 12 cells :( but 6 cells may be too low in battery life; the Brightview screen's reflection and glare annoy me (getting tire of constantly adjusting the screen to get the right viewing angle) :(

Pros: the sound quality is better than my previous owned Dell 700m :) ; a good valued laptop

ps: if you plan to buy one, make sure you have wireless and productivity ports.

    thanks for the replies -
im about to purchase a v2000z from hpshopping.

    My configurations are as follows:

(im using it primarly for 2Dsoftware -Quark, Photoshop, Flash, Itunes, Dvds, Web browsing, and possibly some experimenting with maya)

    Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    – AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-28 (1.6GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    – 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
    – ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/productivity ports
    – 256MB DDR SDRAM (1x256MB) __WILL ADD 1GB aftermarket_
    – 60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    – DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    – 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
    – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I liked this computer most for its lightweight and slim design, and cuz it has a better integrated card over the dv1000.

HOWEVER, i am concerned (and it is holding me back slightly from buying this again - i bought it from bust buy and had problems within a week and i returned it b/c the startup took almost 12 mins!)

Anyway - so im concerned b/c of the amount of heat it gives off on the left palm rest - is this something that can cause harm to the computer? should i be concerned?
Then im also know it has a louder fan noise and its keys click louder than norman - is this something that you guys found to be bothersome?
And lastly yes i know this is a budget laptop but im concerned about the build quality - is it really cheaply constructed? has anyone had any issues with its durablity - such as its hinges or with its silver interior paint -is it wearing away?

Please help me out as i need to buy one asap!!

It wasn't the case for me. The heat is the result of:
    1. My ML-30 CPU is less powerful than yours, as cinna_n's posts (with links, thanks) points out, with low CPU loading, the low end Turion actually eats more power.

    2. My Zonealarm suite may kicks on for virus and spyware sweeping, even when I do nothing. I actually found my Samsung 5400 HD is much warmer than my 5400rpm hitachi one

    3. All things are relative, when I say v2000z is hot, it is in compare to my other DELL laptops, so even for the same laptop, one may say it is OK, one may say it is hot, a 3rd one may even claims it is cooler. Your ambient tempreture, surrounding air circulation etc also plays a role.

    MEERKAT-

ok so the ml28/30 would give off alot more heat than the ml34??? Is this amount a huge difference - is it really worth the extra $ for the ml34?

Im getting a 5400RPM harddrive w/a 12 cell battery- would this help for heat reduction/fan noise on a ML28/30???

If you ask me to purchase again, I may go with ML30+, but I'm not willing to pay 50+ more just for heat reason. since I have no other tirion, I have no idea if it helps a lot or not.

Ooh, I'm using 6 cell, that also hinder airflow than the 12's

CHINNA_N - with your ml-37 how would u rate your heat ?? How long (hours wise) does it take for the left palm rest to get hot?

12 elevated the bottom panel a bit, making airflow better.

I now use a cooler for my v2000z, which is feasible for me as I have a Dell 700m, which is a much better travel laptop.

ML-37 is better than lower speed processors as it has more speed steps(consumes less power in intermediate steps) in between and overall it produces less heat on average. I did not see heat as problem at all in my case. Today I am using it for last 6 hours and fan did not start even once. That includes lot of installations, some java compilation etc. HDD temp wentup to 48C when I was doing installations for almost an hour, but later stabilized at 45C(Which is not bad at all).

Left palm gets little warm(not hot) after an hour or so, but gets only warmer if we do lot of installations. I saw similar thing with many other laptops too. But based on location of HDD you may/may not know it is warm.

Please check my review about V2000z.

That may give you some insight about this laptop. I really like it sofar. Plenty fast( faster than my P4 3.0Ghz Desktop for project compilations). Boots in 25 secs, it is light, screen is really good.
