    Bump out of interest.
Not sure if the DV6-6000/7000 uses a special ODD, but any standard 12.7" caddy should work.
A few people did mention installing a second hard drive in the DV6's ODD slot, but I'm not certain how that worked out. From the posts I've seen, one person said that he had issues detecting the hard drive, yet another person vaguely mentioned that it worked.

Do u remember where did u read about it? is it in the main post?
I remember people installing a second HDD in the dv7.....
My main question is whether the ODD is standard and if u can remove the faceplate and install it in the caddy...

That would be great !!! can't wait for that.....
My main concern is the faceplate of the blueray drive. this can have
a serious impact on the looks of the dv6.....without it, it can be pretty ugly.

Yeah i know u can remove the faceplate but it's not always compatible with the caddy.
Some holes and screws don't always fit.
Newmodeus told me that there dv6-6xxx caddy will work with the 7XXX but its 45$ !
Please tell me when u get your caddy.....
When r u supposed to get it?

Got a surprise today. The caddy came in today. Lol amazon told me it won't be here till middle of July. Popped in the 1TB that came with the lappy. Took the faceplate off the bluray drive and then popped it on the caddy. Installed the caddy and viola the laptop reconized the HDD. Still had HP recovery and drivers partition etc. Formatted the drive. Now I have a 256 SSD as my primary and a 2nd HDD as my storage drive. :)

That's great news. Very glad that the faceplate fits, haha.
How does the faceplate fit onto the caddy, by the way? I'm surprised that it fits onto a generic caddy.

    here's the caddy i ordered
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221038513398#ht_3669wt_1037
please look at the front - do u think the faceplate will fit into this? (same holes and spaces like ur caddy?)

Thats great - having a SSD and 1TB hdd.

Yea. It looks like it will fit in that one too. Its just the two tabs on the left and right and the one in the middle holding the faceplate. Everything lines up when you stick the caddy in.

Lol I took the gamble. Didn't feel like paying $45 for one off of HP. Ended up paying $20 shipped. And it works great.
I just snap the tabs in the holes that was on the caddy. Had to take off the faceplate that came with it beforehand.

HP sell the one for DV6-6000 series. They said it will fit in the 7000.

From what I've read it looks like those generic 12.7mm SATA caddys will work with the dv6-7000. I'm getting the caddy BubbleHead87 got from amazon to put the factory 750gb HDD in.

There are instructions in the Service Manual. It is a bit intimidating to be honest, I tried removing mine the other day(though it'll be a week till I get my caddy). It's a bit harder than how the manual makes it seem but just be patient and don't force it too much.

You need a small flathead. Using a paper clip or something and poke the little hole in the front of the faceplate to pop the drive out. Flip it upside down. Look on the right under the lip of the faceplate; there will be a tab that you need to push and hold down. With the other hand pull on the face plate on the right. On the left side is another tab. Same thing but this one is alot easier to get to. After both of those tabs are off just wiggle it around a bit to get it off. The service manual has a picture on how to do it. Already tore down my laptop 3 times already. Replaced the thermal paste with artic silver then ic diamond. Replaced the standard drive with a SSD. Replace the ODD with a HDD caddy. My new wireless card is coming in sometime this week. :)

I can't say for sure if the new compound is working properly. Before I tore it down I ran prime temps hit 90+ at full load with turbo kicked in. Ever since I replaced the compound it won't turbo at all. When I first boot up the computer I can see it turbos up to 3.10 for a few seconds before it does back to default speeds. :/ Running stock speeds at full load gives me temps of high 60s. The ambient temperature in my condo is roughly 80. If anyone know what I can do too troubleshoot this little problem let me know :) Yes I ordered the Intel 6235. I got it off Proadvantage for $29 shipped.

I figured it must be a bad driver I installed that was giving me the problems of not being able to turbo boost. I ended up doing a full windows reinstall. It works great now. When I ran intelburn and prime 95 prior to applying the IC compound it was running high 90's. Core #3 hit 101  Ran them for about 30 minutes, it never hanged or crashed but temps ran too high for my liking. Now with the compound it hangs around the low 80's (80-83) Ran the intelburn test at max and prime95 at most demanding cpu and ram usage without any problems. Core #3 hit high of 87 once in a while.

Installed my 6235 the other day. Works great.

Thanks man. i have the same info with my card.
It's just that there's no MADE IN CHINA written on the card with the provantage/amazon cards so i was kinda of worried.

BTW - when u installed your new caddy - is it aligned well or still have the same problem of the blue ray drive ?
