I want to upgrade my CD-R drive to a DVD-R drive for my HP ZV5000.

Does anyone know what drives are compatible with this notebook? I am worried that the plastic bezel that snaps on will not fit correctly. I know to make sure that the button and light are in the same position as the bezel.

    Thanks for your help :_)

I know there are some posts on this in the HP forum if you search.

Good to know, thanks. I searched on the forums for this topic already, and damnit... I guess I just couldn't come up with a good search string, cause I still haven't found the topic!

The bezels are all proprietary design, so you wont find an drive with the same bezel unless you buy one from HP or their resellers.. The bezel was removable(atleast in the R3000, Compaq version of the zv5000) so you might still be able to swap the bezel from your old drive to the new one provided the new one also has a similar type of design. The standard bezel on the drive should also work since they are usually smaller than the HP bezel and should fit into the drive bracket.

I want to use the original HP bezel faceplate on my new drive. I don't want to use one of those flat faceplates, as this will leave part of the notebook open and exposed to dust.

It sounds like buying from HP is the only way to go to upgrade the cd-rom drive?

Actually, it won't. I found that the standard flat bezel works very well on the zv5000.

But there is some space next to the drive that is not protected, about a quarter of an inch that is left completely open. Plus it doesn't look as clean.... but maybe I should just deal with it!

It is protected. Take out your current drive (don't forget to remove the battery first!) and you'll see. At least it was on mine.
