I bought a stick off Kingmax 512 MB PC2700 SODIMM from teh newegg.com sale ($50 bucks shipped). It arrived today and I stuck it in, blue screen of death as soon as Windows loaded. There are 3 possiblilites I can think off:

    1. The ram I got is incompatible with the zv60000.
    2. The ram is faulty/defective
    3. The ram won't work with the stick of 256 Mb Ram under the keyboard. I could tried removing the preinstalled stick and see if it works by itself, but that involves removing the keyboard would that void my warranty?

Is there anything else that could be causing the problem and has any one tried to upgrade their ram and found a brand that works with the zv60000?

thanks for the the info. I noticed that the ram the sent me does not even look like the one on the website, perhaps its the older ram?

Anyway I'll runs those tests to see if the ram is defective. I also tried to acess the other memory slot, but the keyboard cover is freaking hard to get off, so I just gave up. Maybe some else will brave enought to try and gives us some tips.

It's likely incompatible but it could just be defective. http://www.memtest.org is my favorite tester (boots off CD, bypassing Windows), let it run for at least half an hour or until it finds errors. Kingmax used to be incompatible with zv5000z's but they swore they fixed their design. Newer user reports were positive. There have been reports that some cheapo DIMM makers haven't been testing their finished parts to cut costs.

Anyhow, I'd just send it back in favor of Crucial or Kingston. Those are the two safest brands. There are some others but I'm too lazy to bother remembering which is what.

I used a regular Staples store shelf PNY N512D27OPT 512MB stick and had no problems.

Well I ran memtest and the ram failed test #5 which indicates compatibility issues with some athlon processors. So the ram is going back to newegg.

Fry's had a sale on 256MB PC2700 SoDimm for $25.00 so I went ahead an bought a stick to see if it work. Turns out that its Wintec memory and it works fine. So now I have 512 ram and my zv6000 runs much better, I guess it will tide me over until I find a good deal on a 512MB stick.

HECK!! I bought that same Kingmax memory and should get it 5/5/05
so I will probably be sending it back too. The price was great and
it seems most people have good luck with it. Oh well we shall see.
