    Hey guys,

i'm looking to upgrade the memory in my V2410. I've read that compaq is picky with ram and was wondering if anyone has ever upgraded their ram and if so what brand they use and model etc.

    Thanks!

There are a few models v2410 (CA, TU, US, AU), so tell us what CPU your laptop has.
If you have Pentium M/ Celeron, you can buy DDR 533 RAM. If you have Turion/Sempron (that would be my guess), then you can only put DDR 333 or DDR 400 (bettery DDR400).
For best compatibility stick to well know brands such as Crucial, Kingston, even Corsair. Try Newegg.com for good deals.

Turion 64 used to be very picky for RAM but obviously memory manufacturers adopted their products and now compatibility is much much better than a year ago. I have a PQI and a Transcend chips in my L2000 (ML34) and I haven't experienced any problems so far.

    Hey,

thanks for the reply - i have the CA version which has a turion DDR333 256x2 ram in it currently...would i have to put in 512x2 if i wanted 1gb or could i get 1gb + 1 of the 256 it came with to total 1.25gb of ram?

    Thanks!

Yes, You can safely use 1GB+256MB without any issues.

You can do both but I would prefer 1.25 GB to 1gb. If you choose to combine one of the existing chips with a new 1gb chip, the new chip will run at 166mhz (ddr333) even if the chip itself is DDR400.
If you buy two new DDR400 chips your memory will run at 200 mhz (DDR400), which will be beneficial for the shared video card. Yet the difference between 1.25 gb ddr333 and 1 gb ddr400 would be minimal

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it! So if i were to order some ram from newegg, which brand should i go for that would most likely work out of the ones you had mentioned earlier? Or are all the names you mentioned generally the same in terms of compatibility?

    Thanks

Crucial DDR400, no contest. I have two of their 1GB sticks in my dv8000z (same generation as yours).

I have 2 x 512 MB of Corsair DDR400 sticks, they have served me well with no problems.
