when i play games on my laptop, i tend to get temps ranging from 80-85C when i play Metro 2033 on HIGH with Max rez

but then i put my Coolsense control to Coldest, and now my temps max out at 67-69C while playing games

    those are excellent numbers :)

With coolsense set to coolest, your cpu performance is reduced and the increase fan speed kicks in earlier. I'm not sure what it does with the cpu exactly, but I get similar temps when disabling turbo boost.

I'm not 100% sure myself, but that appears to be the consensus some other folks have reached after more intensive benchmarking. Boot up a single-core game while on Coolest mode and see if your performance drops significantly.
