I already returned my HP dv2000t to staples after getting one that was obviously opened before with the HP seal riped and taped over, and finding out later that the one they exchange it with was purchased by another consumer on June 20th 2006, after checking the warranty status. When I return my laptop they said something about Hp repacking the old laptop, and I was just wondering does a retail store like staples know if a laptop has been repacked, and does the manufacture even tell them that it has been repacked. After realizing I got two old laptop, I began to think that staples is taking refurbished laptop and selling them as new, scaming unsuspecting consumer. I only knew that the second one was a repack when i checked the warranty status on Hp website otherwise i would have never knew.

I have never heard of this before. Are your sure you just didn't miss something in the fine print?

I would just buy the laptop straight from HP.

Actually I am pretty sure this has happen before, and people just blamed Hp. The first time I stumbled into a cnet forum, a guy was complaining that Hp warranty start the day it was manufacture. I didn't understand it before, but now I realize he got a repack of an old laptop that was sold as new, since warranty begins on the date of purchase. All those story you heard about Hp not honoring their warranty because they were sure it that it didn't expire but Hp told them it was came from the fact they bought a factory repack. You can't tell if a laptop is a factory repack, I got mine hp dv2000t all the package was there, everything worked fine, and i thought it was new until i check the warranty.
