Ok, it is just me with my dv9200 who has had a problem with his audio being trashed after this optional Conexant High Definition Audio drivers for Windows Vista update from Microsoft (February 2008).
I have the 5045 venice audio chipset and the only fix I've found was to go back to the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver 4.19.0.52 Windows Vista (x32x64).
I'm not sure if there is a more updated version than this one?
Any news on this?
thx ..

Same problem here. Just uninstall, restart and let windows re-install the old drivers. I have NO IDEA why they released those - they just mess the computer up. I installed them the day they came out and totally lost audio.
-
Oh shoot, i downloaded and installed them last night too from WU, but instead of just restarting, i shut down, cause i was done using the laptop, and haven't booted up since. I'm almost afraid to now. :S

I download the Conexant High Definition Audio update this afternoon for my HP Pavilion dv9000 running Vista 32. I rebooted to find that the audio no longer worked. I had been search for a solution for hours. I finally came across Conexant High Definition Audio Driver 4.19.0.52. After installing it I went to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound and set Speakers as my default device. SPDIF Interface was works instead of Speakers for a default device sometimes, not sure why. The sound works fine now.

I downloaded the update too and as everyone else here it broke my sound. Completely boneheaded release.
Anyway just removing the update caused Vista to redetect the soundcard and install the previous driver. -
Yep, my sound is gone too. No audio output device found.
PS: Problem fixed by going to Control Panel > Programs and Features, and simply uninstalling Conexant HD Audio.
But what a retarded "update" nevertheless.....lol. -
I am only running 4.15.0.50. Can someone tell me where to get the 4.19's? Or is this the highest level of driver for my version of card?
I have the dv9201ca.
Thanks. -
oh man GOD BLESS YOU GUYS! i was FREAKIN' OUT! stupid update!!!!!! uninstalling worked just fine yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny, I've checked Windows Update and there's no sound drivers for my hp dv8320us. I'm using the XP ones that came with my laptop when it had XP MCE 2005.

I have the same problem. But after I rolled back the driver, the sound worked just for one day. After I started my computer the next day, I had no sound from the internal speaker, but the headphone jack and the mic worked perfectly. Since then I installed all the drivers I could find (for vista and xp drivers on vista - but those didn't work because I have vista 64, I've seen that the driver for xp fix the error were the internal speaker stop working after useing the headphones for a long time, probably my case; but this fix is not available for vista ) and last night I reinstalled vista again, but no luck.
I hope this is not a hardware problem, because my warranty just expired for 20 days and probably Hp won't believe me when I say that a vista driver destroyed my internal speakers or worse my mobo.
Please help! -
Just as a reference: never trust a driver download from MS. They have consistently screwed up all my PCs for years on end, and no PC driver of mine EVER worked after I let it use WU to update.

If you didn't do a clean install, go to HP Recovery manager, click on advanced options, and click on hardware driver re-installation.
That should also do it. -
same exact thing happened to me with my hpdv9200 in vista. i updated the latest drivers via windows update, and the drivers are all F'ed up!! a red X appears next to the speaker on the system tray, but the drivers appear to be installed properly. i called conexant to see why their newest release doesn't work, but they kept insisting to call the manufacturer!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PC WITH A CONEXANT CHIPSET!!! i bought this pc to do audio work, and there is no way to disable the soundcard via bios so that i can get an external card with no possible conflicts. alot of people are having issues with this conexant chipset in their HP laptops!!
