Hello everyone, this is my first post here. Recently I wanted to buy an HP tablet pc since it seemed to me to be the cheapest available to try and see if a tablet pc could help me out in what I'm going to do: an animated thesis that will require a lot of painting.

So I did a bit of research and found out that the newest model they carry doesn't support a lot of professional programs (ex.photoshop) only to add a multi-touch experience. Unfortunately I think this is a very poor choice from HP so I set to find a previous model that had the digitizer that I seek.

This is where things started to get very frustrating.

It seems to me the previous model with wacom technology is the HP pavilion TX2600, which in turns has a LOT of flavours: 2622, 2635, 2640... etc up to 2650 (it seems). Each of this versions has another subversion like: US, EW, EG, etc...

What is going on? The specks of some of this models are basically the same, but what is the difference? Which one is the latest one that I should try to find?

The HP website was not very helpful to me and on top of that a basic google research turned out that these models (if available) are actually more expensive than the latest one, am I doing something wrong?

The Tx2500 series and the tx2600 series is the same base computer with different changeable options; after tx2599 it rolls over to tx2600. These however are not the same as the tx2000, which has an older motherboard chipset (not upgradable, unlike CPU, RAM, hard drive etc).

Just buy the TX26xx/TX25xx which has the specifications that you want/need.

Here's a link to explain the two-letter suffixes and their meanings- LINK

The current model of the tablet is the tx2z (configure-to-order) or tx2-####xx in pre-configured/retail form (the tx2-1020us, for example).

The prior model was the tx2500z (CTO) or tx25##xx and tx26##xx. The differences between model numbers often have significance only to HP for various internal reasons. There are often different model numbers with identical specs (as far as the customer sees).

You should visit TabletPCReview, the sister site to NBR. They have more expertise in the area. :D
