I have searched around notebookreview and still dont know if the 7690XT is a 6770m on steroids or if its a 800 shader part like the 6850m.
GPUz identified it as 480 SP gpu but people were saying GPUz cant read the card. Now that people have gotton their hands on the ENVY 17 can anyone tell me what the truth is.
Is 7690XT a 480SP 725Mhz 6770m re-badge or is it something else?
What would that make the 7690M "Non XT" then which is in ENVY 15?
-
As i have understand it the 7690M-XT is a 480SP rebadged 6770 maybe clocked a tad higher than the 6770 and the 7690M is a lower clocked 7690M-XT. I would say the performance is decent on the 7690M-XT and should be decent on the 7690M.

Its yet to be ordered, the 3D ENVY 17 is not exactly cheap and my friend wants to be sure of the specs. I searched around and figured out that 7690XT is way powerful than 7690M but if both turn out to be 480 shader parts than ENVY 15 is again in the picture.
MBP with the 6750m 512MB is not worth it 512mb is way way small and the 6770m with 1GB is out of his budget. -
I'm typing this from my ENVY 17 3D as we speak - if you have any further questions about it, I'll be happy to look into them for you. -
They are both 480 shader parts.
The XT is 10-15% faster than a 6770M. -
-
in terms of screen quality of the 17 vs 17 3d, is there anything special? color reproduction etc?
-
Sadly here in India there is no 30% off coupons we get them at normal retail price but its still a better buy than MBP or Samsung 7 due to obvious reasons.
-
I dont quite understand why is the 6770m ranked higher on notebookcheck then 6850m ?? i would say that second one is more powerful..
-
The 6850M notebookcheck tested was GDDR3, while the 6770M was GDDR5. Even with more shaders, the GDDR5 makes the 6770M superior.

A 7690M XT Graphics Score pulled from the other thread was 1407 vs your 1776.
Which leaves a 26% gap between the two. -
Wait, this thread suggests that the 3rd Gen Envy 17 actually lost graphics performance versus the 2nd Gen Envy 17?
-
It is an unarguable fact.
-
Yeep, looks like it did. Maybe it'll get another option later on. And, yes, the 6850M is definitely faster than the 6770M/7690M XT, w/GDDR5.

I've been on vacation, so this is news to me.
I guess the trade off is the battery and heat though?
Didn't the 2nd Gen Envy only get like 2 hours of life, while the new one is getting 4+. I saw someone in the other thread saying 6.5 hours just surfing the web on the new Envy 17 3D (obviously with graphics disabled).
Mine has a ship date of tomorrow, so with luck I will get it next week. I hope it doesn't suck, I have high hopes for it to be powerful enough to replace my desktop, but portable enough to take with me. -

I am also confused about this. Does the Envy 17 come with the 7690XT ? HP lists 7690m as the graphics chip. Also what are the clock speed for the 7690m and 7690xt? Did HP drop the 7690XT and now ship the 17" with the same card as the 15"?
Confused over 7690-XT in ENVY 17, pls clarify
