Confusion About Radiance 1600x900 and 1920x1080p

So I'm really enjoying the forums here, very informative. Ok.... I need some clarification about this "radiance" display that used to come with the Envy 14Envy 14. People are saying how amazing it was, and that is was way better than the now 14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768) .

I ordered the Envy 17 3D with the 17.3" diagonal Full HD HP 3D Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display (1920x1080)

So was the Envy 14 Radiance display still higher quality then the Envy 17 3D's display? Of course the 17 has the 1920x1080p....so higher resolution then the Radiance, but was the Radiance display better than the Brightview technology...see where I'm getting at? Is it just about the nits? I think someone said the HP 13 had even higher nits at 400... the Radiance 14 had 350 was it? Anyway.... I'd love to get a solid answer... Display is very important to me...so thanks guys.

P.S. I was thinking that the 17 with the ULTRA Brightview thing, might be comparable to the Radiance...hmmm

brightview is still 350nit, but color is less saturated than radiance.

the most important difference is the declaration of the resolution of 1600x900 vs 1366x768

 

Radiance displays are better than the Brightview in terms of contrast, viewing angles (somewhat) and gamut

Think crappy Lenovo screen vs a much better MBP screen. If you really want the best display you can buy in a notebook, get a HP Elitebook 8540w or 8740w with the Dreamcolor 2 Display

 

From what I can tell, the 1600x900 Radiance panel had/has better viewing angles, sharper colors (though somewhat over-saturated and tinted mildly blue), more brightness, and of course a higher resolution than the 1366x768 BrightView panel. People rave about it because it's one of the few decent panels found in a smaller laptop like the Envy 14 (it beats out the Vaio Z's 1080P, Macbook Pro 13, and Macbook Air 11.6" in terms of color and viewing angles from my personal experiences).

The Envy 17, on the other hand, is much larger overall and thus has a higher resolution panel (as expected for a laptop that size / price). 1920x1080 panels are not uncommon in 17" or even 15" laptops, so it's less uncommon. I can't common on the colors, viewing angles, and brightness as I've never seen one in person. If it's anything like the 1080P panel in my previous Envy 15, it's a heck of a nice screen even without the Radiance tag.

 

thanks guys. From what I've already heard about those who have the Envy 27 3D raving how amazing the display is. Also it is promoted as a display which has good viewing from various angles, good contrast of blacks, rich colors....I believe its the fact of the glossy finish/glass that covers the front panel...

Still, I wouldn't mind comparing side to side the Envy 14 with radiance display to the Envy 17 3D to get real life experience....
