I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm not terribly computer savy. Can I connect an external monitor to my laptop? If so, how and what do I need to buy.

Depends on what notebook model you have and what monitor or TV you have.

You can use the VGA port or HDMI port to connect to a TV or monitor. You will need either a VGA cable or HDMI cable.

Yep, it can connect via HDMI or VGA.

All depends on the monitor or TV you have. Many monitors as TVs have both HDMI and VGA ports. Then all you would need is either a VGA or HDMI cable.
