VGA will give a better quality image especially since S-Video only supports 640x480...

VGA.... I use that with my Samsung LCD and the picture is great!

I would love to use one of my extra HDMI slots but I don't have that kind of video card :(

VGA would be best. Too bad it didn't have a DVI connector and a HDMI port on your laptop. I use a DVI/HDMI connector to connect via my laptops HDMI port.

The only thing about VGA is there is no sound. You will have to either use your laptop speakers or an S-video/audio cable.

The sound would only be a problem if the monitor had speakers to begin with and the OP wanted to use them. Many monitors don't have them (or will provide an an audio cable if they do) and I've often found their quality to be abysmal if they are included. Instead, the OP would probably be better off using the built in speakers or getting a cheap set of speakers.
