I just got a new Insignia LCD HDTV and a new HP DV 2000 Laptop . I connected the VGA TO VGA on the tv, looks on, a little small for using it as a nd monitor, even though its like 5 ft away. Maybe for movies on vongo

I didnt mess with any settings, chose the default when it was connected, I think its 1024 x somthing. Is there s specific one I am supposed to choose for HD since my TV is HD? To make it clearer.

Also, am I able to connect the VGA somehow to the HDMI maybe using an adapter? I heard HDMI is a better picture.

    This laptop rocks though :)

    Thanks!

VGA->HDMI will not get any benefits, the VGA connection degrades the signal.

What is the model number of your TV? I'd try 1336x768(the 1336 may be off by a little) or 1440x900.

you have to read the fine print...lol just because it's an hd lcd tv doesn't mean it will show in true computer lcd resolutions....

tvs have two types of resolutions. 1 for tv and one for computer or hdmi connections. look in your manual or the windows display software for max resolution on your tv.

Your computer doesn't have an HDMI output? It should. HDMI is part of the Santa Rosa chipset and all of the GeForce 8400M GS cards ship with HDMI out. So your system should have it.

Whats the resolution of your TV?

In my experience, LCD TVs display the screen "smaller" when the resolution isn't set properly.

If your TV set is 1366x768, set your resolution in Windows to 1280x720. If you have a 1080p set, then you obviously want to set your resolution to 1920x1080.

Nope, my new laptop doesnt have a HDMI, just s-video and VGA . I wish it did, The cheaper Gateway did, not sure why HP didnt put one in this.
