Has anyone purchased one of these units that can provide any feedback? I've been looking at an R3070US (HP#: DS479U#ABA), I'm located in Canada so the P/N's may vary. I currently own an HP NX7000 and have been getting some problems so it will be going back & I had decided on this Presario. I have not been able to get any concrete details on this unit either from the web or from HP's website. I have not been able to verify 100% if the video memory is shared or dedicated. Anybody with feedback on this model or on this series please let me know what you think of them.

    Thanks.

    Hello

Here is a link to the R3070US. http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=361112 This is from a company I buy form a lot. I deal with one person there so I know I am getting the best value for my money.

As for your question: Video Graphics and Video Memory ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9200 with 64MB DDR (dedicated)

I am buying the R3050US from PC Mall once they get them back in. I hope this helps you out.

Me!,I purchased a Compaq Presaior R3000us on April 15,2004. I wasn't completely satisfied when I got it because it came loaded with a lot of crap software that where all like 200+ mb. But I got rid of all of them and I really enjoy my laptop, I didn't like the design that much, how the keys are white, it makes it look 1990ish. The battery dosn't last that long either.

    Specs
    - AMD64 Athlon 3200+
    - 512MB of RAM
    - XP Home
    - nVidia 440 Go
    - 15.4 Screen

If I had a Ferrari I would brag about it because of the logo, If I had an Alienware and I bragged about it everyone would call me a retard because I didn't build it.

Thanks for the info, but I think I have decided to hold off from getting this or any of the similar HP/Compaq units. I was looking for a desktop replacement, but still can't get over the size of the unit or the AC adapter. The adapter is almost as large as one of the bricks from the side of my house! I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I'm looking for in a notebook. I'm now back to my old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4320, P3-600 notebook. I have considered the NC8000 because of it's power, size & features, but is VERY pricey.

I PURCHASED A COMPAQ PRESARIO R3000UK ON SAT 24-4-04, AND ITS ABSOLUTLY
BRILLIANT, IT RUNS VERY SILENT,IS VERY FAST,SOLIDLY BUILT, AND COMES WITH SOME DECENT SOFTWARE, AND HAS BETTER SOUND THAN MOST LAPTOPS I WOULD CARE TO MENTION, I LOVE THE WHITE KEYS, WHICH MAKE IT MUCH EASIER ON MY EYESITE IN DIM CONDITIONS,I OBVIOUSLY WEAR SPECTACLES, AND A BIG BONUS IS ITS CAPABILITY TO BURN DVD+R DVD+RW DISCS, WITH WHICH I USE WITH STUDIO-9 PINNACLE, I HAD PURCHASED THE NEW PACKARD BELL EASYNOTE K5305 A WEEK EARLIER, WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP,AND £150 DEARER, VERY VERY NOISY FAN, REALLY TINNY SPEAKERS, AND IT COULDENT EVEN READ ANY DISCS IN ITS DRIVE, SAT 24TH WAS THE DAY I EXCHANGED IT FOR THE COMPAQ, AND HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK SINCE, I LOVE IT, AND WOULD THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MODEL, BUY IT, I`M SURE YOU WILL BE DELIGHTED WITH IT.......ALBERT.

I just bought an r3070us here in Canada. Bought it on 24 April 2004. I'm actually writing this with a wireless connection to the web. Bought a demo off the floor, not a bad deal.

    First impressions:
The machine does run fast. Ran a few benchmarks, came back sparkling, especially for a mobile unit.

The processor is not hyperthreading despite what the exactchoice website says (at least, my machine is not HT enabled). Maybe its a BIOS setting, but I'm looking into that.

It comes with XP pro, and not XP home as it says in some reviews.

The battery will run loud CD music for about 3.5 hours, with the screen on throughout. Not too bad.

The wireless 802.11g was a bit of a pig to configure and get working correctly with my wireless MN-700 router. It took a day of trial and error, and I'm willing to give pointers if anyone wants. I could also use a few pointers to work out some of the remaining kinks if anyone out there will offer to help. But it does run 54 MBPS. In fact, it's doing it now.

The info on the web for this machine is tremendously lacking. It seems to be an orphan. Even the Canadian tech support guys (I phoned two nights ago), don't know very much about it. eg. didn't know it had 802.11g, they thought it came with XP home, etc. etc.

Haven't tried CD or DVD burning yet, but plays both ok.

I know what you mean about the size of the brick powersupply, but it doesn't bug me too much. After all, the performance of this thing truly does make it a desktop replacement.

So overall, pretty happy with the purchase so far. Would like to hear from other users to help optimize configuration especially wrt wireless netwrok config.

    Cheers, Elroy

My r3070us only did 10,628 on aquamark 3. Quikster, your's appears to be twice as fast. Why is that, better graphics processor, or something else?
    Cheers, E.

Yes, better graphics processor would defintely cause a much higher score since aquamark is a benchmark of graphic capability.
