Hey guys,
I am considering to buy this laptop,
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10127464&catid=26955
and I have some concerns.
1) What battery life will I expect from this laptop or similar models? Especially when surfing on the internet or taking notes in university. The ASUS laptop I'm using right now only manages 2 hours when surfing on the web and listening to music.
2) The description states that the laptop comes with a HD4530 with up to 2303mb of graphics memory, does that mean this HD4530 uses shared ram or is it a typo?
Any help is greatly appreciated!![]()

HP's site says it's got a 6-cell battery, so 2 hours would be an optimistic estimate. My DV5 gets 1:40 on its 6-cell, that's in power saving mode. You'll definitely want to get a larger battery.
2) The HD4530 has 512MB dedicated memory. It probably is HyperMemory technology - the card will dynamically allocate system memory for its own use when needed. It is only enabled when needed. -
Definitely get the 12 cell. Here is one for under 80 bucks plus 10 dollars shipping. http://www.battdepot.com/model/hp/pavilion+dv6+series.aspx?gclid=CIm5zZzRqpwCFR5HagodzxnFkA

Thanks for the reply.
Where can I buy those batteries in Canada?
Though I'm considering staying with my ASUS G50V with around 2 hours battery life as well. -

I managed to get 2 hours and 10 minutes out of my 6-cell battery coming with my dv5, but I use several optimizations, coming from undervolting the cpu and using a battery saving profile with a maximum operating frequency of 1050 Mhz (the proc is an amd turion zm-80).
BTW, my zm-80 dual core processor at 1050 Mhz is pretty enough to do common workload such as web surfing, writing and watching videos with acceptable lifetime. -
Consider the HDX 16"... the cost is similar direct from HP.. better warrenty.. and a sub woofer.. better screen.. basicly just a better buy for the same money..
$979.95 http://www.amazon.com/HP-HDX16-1370US-16-Inch-Entertainment-Laptop/dp/B002BH4PRE/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
Hp direct.. $949.99 http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...&landing=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Performance and entertainment
I hope this helped.
