Hey guys,
I've done some research about controlling fan speed for HP notebooks...and I've come up with no good answer. I've tried NHC and SpeedFan (or something like that) to no avail. NHC seems to not like Vista and SpeedFan only shows the cores temperature - nothing shows under fan or any of the other tabs.
So I come to ask here, how can I control my fan speed? Is it even possible?

well if you were using xp im sre it would have been a snap well now that your are using vsta i dont think many third party programs support vista or atleast youll have to wait till the patches come out which im sure will take some time
and yes it IS possible to control the speed of your fan -
Good luck, seems the fan is a big issue in HP laptops with Vista (my DV2000t's fan never stops and it's killing my battery life, so it's being returned). Would be nice to have a Vista compatible app to control the fan; better yet, how 'bout a BIOS update to enable SpeedStep correctly.

I don't think speedstep is the problem. I have Everest installed on my machine and can see that the processor is scaling back to 1000 mhz (2 ghz normal) when idle. I suspect either the fan tables are conservatively set or Vista is controlling the fans.... one or the other.
Oh, and I'm running Vista -
I have a squealing pitch on my dv9205 that is essentially a 3200Hz signal. This is too slow to be the hard drive, so I am assuming it is a fan motor. I can tolerate the actual fan blade noise and movement of air, but not the high pitched whine (which I think is some part of the assembly oscillating). It would have been nice to be able to slow the fan to determine if this is the exact problem.
