Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm looking for a drive that is a lot cooler than the 250GB Hitachi that came in my DV9700t. I'm open to all brands and speeds.
Thanks.

SSD hard drives will have the coolest temps and performs the best.
But if you're not willing to shell out that much money, opt for a large 4200rpm drive. -
4200 rpm is really slow, 5400/7200 rpm is more like it.

Try Seagate, probably their 5400.4 series.
4200RPM drives aren't worth the pain. -

Let me define further.
5400/7200 for use as the main boot drive. Something cool and quiet. -
A 120/250/320 GB 4200 rpm drive would perform as fast as a 60/120/160 GB 5400 rpm drive due to the increased platter density. Mechanically, it would draw lesser power due to the reduced spindle speed.
A problem would be finding a 4200 rpm drive these days as we inherently always look forward to higher, faster, stronger -
Does anyone have any brand recommendations?

I've always preferred Seagate to Hitachi, as the latter always seems to run warmer (though faster)....

Hitachi runs warm/hot from personal experience and from what ive read.. Seagate 5400 or Western digital scorpio would be your best choice IMO

my 7200rpm hd runs lower than 50c and maybe a little higher sometimes. i think thats acceptable. i really wouldnt want a slower drive.

Seagate Momentus fourth generation (5400.4)

160gb 5400rpm Samsung's

I got a seagate 120 GB in my HP.. runs quiet and cool.
Coolest, best performing hard drive for 9700 series?
