Please share what cooling pad you are using for your laptop. I am specifically interested in purchasing a cooling pad for my 17 inch hp dv7t quad which i ordered yesterday.

Actually I've recently become interested in cooling pads as well. I currently just have my laptop lifted, especially when I'm gaming on it. Would a cooling pad help the laptop cool down better? I've never bothered getting a cooling pad because I never thought it is better than simply having the laptop lifted.

I'm using a Logitech N100, it was quite cheap and does what I need from it.

There is a slight cooling benefit but more importantly it sits as a buffer between my legs and the laptop in this warm Australian Summer. So really, the cooling benefits are more for me than the laptop :D

It also runs very quietly, almost silent. I used a Targus Chillpad for a short period and the noise of it irritated me immensely.

I've been using a Cryo LX for a good few months now, although I've modded it a fair bit (more like removed some stuff off it).

It's a bit much at 70 dollars, and it actually doesn't help much more than would raising my HDX off a table for CPU/GPU temps, but everything else runs cooler at least (Regular usage runs 38c for cpu cores and 46c for the gpu core).

I actually use the Bytecc NC-820. It's got a really solid frame to it and it has worked wonders on my larger machine. You can usually find it relatively cheap too!

is there a big benefit to these cooling pads that cannot be accomplished, in large part, by an oversized battery? Can you guys with oversized batteries AND cooling pads comment?

With the stock fan taking care of the CPU/GPU, I can get complete coverage on the bottom for the memory area and hdds since they're vented too. (Part of the coolsense design I guess) The U3's 3 additional fans that are positionable anywhere underneath is a big plus.

Plus the open back end allows the laptop to sit flat on it even with an oversized battery. And it doubles as a carrying / protective case.

great. yea I get the additional forced air benefit. So -- have you been able to verify that your dv7 has bottom-side vents that were not there previously? Attached is a photo of the bottom of a dv7 select edition (not SB) - lifted from the maintenance and service guide. I see 5. Is yours different?
