    Hi,

Trying to find the best cooling pad for my dv9500t. Tried targus chilimat. It's kind of small for a 17" notebook.
    Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Geo

I think all cooling pads will be small for 17" laptops.

I have a dv9000t and i use the zalman cooler, it's not wide enough for it but it does the trick for my hard drive heat problem. temps went from 48-50 down to 40-43C for my primary drive so it does a decent job.

Thanks. I will check out the Zalman cooler.
What tool do you use for monitoring the temps (cpu, gpu & hdd)?

The fans on a HP laptop are regulated by the temperature. The fans will automatically turn on when the temperature reaches the threshold that HP has set. Now not being able to hear the whining sound it makes I can't tell you if a fan is bad or if its just loud to begin with. I haven't received my dv9500t yet, but I've owned a dv6000z and the fans would come on when I was running intensive apps and the laptop was getting hot. Theres nothing you can do about the fans turning on and off because its set that way and you want the laptop to stay cool, but if it is a bad fan and its being louder than it should be then you have a problem and should call HP.
