ok, so i have two 3/4 inch stacks of quarters on the back two rubber stoppers of my dv5t so my laptop is raised up for airflow. ive been playing WoW alot sadly, and my laptop keeps heating up alot and the fan runs on like probably the second highest setting. it feels hot too. is there anything i can do to reduce the heat? WoW is running on like low-med settings, and ive got the 9600mGT. any ideas? is there a way to clean out the heatsink, or anything i can do? thanks!

Notebook cooler blowing to the hotspots would probably the best option.

    What temperatures are you getting?

The hard drive is running at fail temps. the cpu temps are warm for idle, but ok. the gpu temp is warm, but it's within specs.

Most hard drives have max temps of either 55c or 60c depending on the manufacturer. Your HD is cooking.

**** i hate having to buy an external device to cool something that already has its own built in cooling system.
ive used my notebook on my lap/in a bed a few times... a guy was telling me that dust/linen particles can get into the notebook and really heat it up. is that true? i thought all i had to do was make sure the back vent fan was able to get air..
is there any trouble spot that i can just unscrew the back of the notebook and see a bunch of dust, take it out and that fix the problem? lol....
(i'm just hesitant of trying to undervolt this thing.)

I'd say those temps are pretty normal for a dv5t. Yeah, how did you get your HDD to get to 60C on the first screenshot?

Don't be reluctant to try undervolting to reduce your CPU temps, and reducing your overall chassis temps. There is no downside to undervolting, just a few hours of testing and that's it! You drop around 10C. If you got a P8600 processor, you can just put your voltages at mine. I'm sure that will work, but I'd highly suggest you test it yourself.

Your GPU temps can reach higher than 100C, so 88C is normal, maybe a bit higher, but still normal. You have to either get a cooler or ignore it, your choice. You bought a dv5t which has a known heat issue, so, other than the heat, it's a good system for it's price.

idk why it was so high. i think my hard drive is fragmented weird...(running defrag now) and it probably was heated up because the computer had been on for awhile and the other components probably pressured him into getting really hot too. **** peer pressure.

but yea, ill look at cases and see. all depends on if this keeps up or not.

you can get a cheap notebook cooler on ebay and mod it like i did heres a pic
playing crysis or wow for a few hours max temp hit 62 cpu and max 70 on gpu.
I have all fans blowing up the new fan i installed is right under the cpu cool it down nice good luck.
