    Hey there...

According to Intel, the Merom is already shipping from July. Does it mean, we can see the 64 bit wonder in HP dv series soon ??? Im gonna postponse buying the dv2000x to next month. The AMD based system dv2000z seems to be very pathetic in battery ever ..!!!!! I will ditch AMD crap then and save for a better notebook.

    Hi..
Also, the core 2 duo prices are same as core duo. !!!! So, I feel we can get a 64bit HP dv2000t at the current price of ~1000$ itself in September. Intel says, it will be 25% efficient than current ones at the same power rating. The socket is same. But the killer processor will be santa rosa coming in Q 1 2007!

The "santa rosa" is not a processor, its a platform, and its based on the merom processor... it will probably just have a speed bump of the FSB up to 800.

HP told me, (and I have read else where) that with the dv2000t model. The processer can be upgraded as long as the socket is the same. This shouldn't be too hard to do. If you can wait you probably should, but those of us who need a laptop for school can buy with confidence. I plan to upgrade in a year or so when the 64 bit stuff catches on (i.e. Vista).

The processor upgrades from Yonah to Merom is easy, but a BIOS upgrade will be required to use Merom. Core2Duo prices are also not the same as CoreDuo just yet and most likely HP as well as other companies wont be getting them untill Sept-late Aug.

    Hey..

According to new intel price sheet, the current price for Core duo 1.6 GHz and Core duo 2 1.6 ghz, processor is the same - 209 $. That is why, I believe, later we can get core 2 duo laptops at almost the current price... and ofcourse, the current yonah will be lot cheaper then by september....
waiting for putting my hands on 64bit Intel lappy...

Same price posting is the marketing strategy to users. Venders won't buy that. Clearly, Intel will give much cheaper price on Core Duo to venders. That is probably what happened in HP's price. Just look at it, so many free upgrade on Core Duo side vs. so little on X2. This is the hint that HP patches Intel price drop to other free upgrades. Core 2 Duo will not have these good deal. At least $100~150 higher than current one.

I wish Intel really AD the truth-- really mark Core 2 Duo the "same" price as Core Duo. This will force AMD to cut down their current price. ;)

    Hi..
Im very nervous on this AMD 64 x2 thing. They are not good for laptop..it seems like... who needs just 2 hrs back up when intel gives upto 4 hrs on a 6cell battery. !! So even if AMD drops the price to a penny.. is it worth ?

In that case, you can buy a 12 cell battery (assuming you don't mind that it sticks out) to compensate for the shorter battery life.

Lets also keep in mind that the supply of the Core 2 is realtively low until Q4 2006/Q1 2007, and the demand will be very high. The prices should be pretty high above that chart for most of this year.

The real story is AMD 64 x2 is more than 2 hrs sometimes even 2 hr 30 mins. And Intel run 3 hrs something on average. The difference is actually not that big. And somehow, AMD runs cooler than Intel.

I have Intel desktops but I prefer AMD on notebooks simply because it is cooler. I was at Irvine mac store last night and I had a little burn with my fingers using their macbook pro for 5mins. no kiddin'!
