I guess core duo 1.66 is better but how much better?
It is the same laptop HP dv8000. Core duo version has 512MB more memory, Go 7400 instead of ATI x200. The price difference is $400can.
Is this price difference justified?
What would you choose and why?

The video card only justifies the price difference. On top of that more memory and an arguably faster processor. Go with the Duo.

Depends on what you're going to be doing, how much $400 is worth to you, and how important 64-bit capability is to you. The Go 7400 is better than the ATI x200 but it's still low-end. Either is fine if you're not into gaming. If you only run single-threaded apps one at a time, the Turion ML37 is going to be a slightly better choice. Dualcore would be more balanced but... +$400.
I like my dv8000z but if HP surprises us and builds a Turion X2 17" widescreen notebook with a decent nVidia GPU (Go 7600 or better) when the X2 launches next month I'll upgrade again, even though I don't really need the firepower. -
Hi Bran,
There is another consideration, do you plan on running 64 bit applications, because if you do then the Turion is the better. -
You can upgrade the CPU or have it upgraded by a professional to Merom when it comes out which is 64-Bit, and seeing as very few programs are 64-Bit now and how it won't be the norm for several years, I'd get the Core Duo over the Turion.
Core Duo 1.66GHz or AMD Turion 2.0GHz?
