l can get the core duo with the gma for like $300 more then the Turon + Xpress but l would like some other opinions first![]()
All the other specs are kept the same, which should l get? l plan on doing mild gaming and nothing has to be run on max settings (Source @ minimum would make me happy and l know the Xpress can do it, just not sure about the GMA 950...).

Turion! ATI's X200 GPU is 2-3 times faster than Intel's GMA. Plus you'll have the option of running 64-bit Windows Vista when it becomes available. Battery life should be better on the Turion too.

If you buy duo core now, you're going to get ripped off. Laptop technology will be changing rapidly for the next year or so, and you should wait until the Merom Core Duo processor is released (~September) and then wait for the Napa2 chipset to be released in 2007 before shelling out big bucks for a laptop. The next chipset will actually take advantage of a 64-bit processor's ability to access more RAM. But if you have the extra $400 to blow on a Core Duo processor, then go ahead. All the other specs are the same as a v500z except there is no card reader.

l know the X200 is much better then the GMA but l was hoping the dual core cpu would make up for it. I know it won't run Vista but chances are l won't need it to since my desktop is a A64 @ 2.4Ghz so it'd run Vista fine. Battery life on the Core Duo is actually better then the Pentium M processors even though theres two cores (dont ask me how because l don't know how they do it). -
At this time, Turion offer more value and future proofing. But Core-Duo is still performance king for few months(until Turion Dual-Core I guess). Battery performance wise, though Core-Duo takes more juice at full load than P-M(ofcourse it gets more done too), but typical usage in battery is as good as P-M.
But at this time, Core-Duo laptops are still quite expensive. I am guessing in 2-3 months Intel drops these prices substantially making it more value. -
Looks like dual cores probably out of the question, but now something else is in...V2000Z vs. V5000T with a x700 gpu. The V5000T should cost about the same as the core duo did, and it also has a P-M processor up to 2 Ghz along with a 80gb 5.4k HDD. l'm not sure yet if 14" is too small; l looked at the V2000Z but configured differently (but still with the brightview in store) and the screen looked amazing but somewhat small. If l find that 15.4 would be better then 14 then l'll gladly go for the 5000T with a x700.
