    Costco's notebook section.

There's no longer an option to customize HP notebook there, however, there's still the option to customize HP desktops in the Costco desktop section.

    Any idea why?

I was just about to order a dv9000t from Costco's site...

    :\

Looks like you are right. Too bad too.

I guess I am lucky, I just got my custom dv2000t order placed on Monday.

    .

Several months ago the Costco site was for a few days messed up, prices showing like $600 for the Core Duo, all prices being jacked up $$$$ like at retail suggested list or something.

A few days later, pricing was back to normal.

My guess is they are re-vamping the site. Changing things around.

    Hope that is the case....

I just sent them an email, and I'll see what they have to say.

I'll post their reply here once I get it so you all can be updated on what's going on.

I considered that as one reason.

One reason I'm not jumping the gun quite yet and ordering the system from HP's store. Gonna wait and see what Costco says in their email to my question.

Hopefully it is indeed just a site re-vamp.

    Interesting.

I know the Costco site can be really buggy sometimes, so...

I have a friend who works for HP. They were told that there will be a shortage of HP laptops in the stores starting now until the first quarter of the next year. Apparently, they've miscalculated the demand. That's why Costco was told to stop taking orders, I guess.

Yes, but Costco is basically a mirror of HP's order site.

It's not like HP has to make the notebooks for Costco whether they're needed or not.

They're ordered by consumers, built, then sent to consumers.

Anyways, who knows. I'm still waiting to hear from Costco Support on it.

The link is back on costco.com

There is a message stating that custom configurator will be back on 11/24/06

    So I see.

Now the wait continues for me, since I'd rather order through Costco.

Well, it all depends, I think.

99% of people who want to buy an HP will either go to a retail store or HP Shopping Online.

I don't think most people know of Costco's HP Configuration site, aside from people who really know notebooks well.

But what's the point in customizing at Costco (other than the six-month return policy or whatever)? You can get the same thing cheaper from the HP Online store.

Cheaper thru HP?.. on every system I've confiqured, on every option it was cheaper thru Costco... and even if that was not the case you'd have to be a fool to buy thru HP direct.

I guess you're talking about a "student" discount? Making the totally thru Hp slightly cheaper?

    HP = 21 days
    Costco=180 days

    Read thru this thread:
(just one example of why you'd want to purchase thru Costco):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=57325

Ask some of those guys if buying thru Hp direct was worth it.

Well, it IS cheaper for me to go through HP than Costco for me, like $100 cheaper, since I'm registered with HP's APP, but, Costco's six month return window is what I like, in case I have some major unexpected problems with the machine.

And before you comment to that, WeAreNotAlone, don't worry. I've read your very informative thread on the deal on how to return to Costco to make sure HP eats the return, and not Costco.

For the norm. consumer the costco option is better. Why? because they are wholesale. Its that simple and thats why the price on upgrade and customization options is cheaper with costco by a few bucks that all add up in the end plus whatever else current promotional price scheme is going on with costco and yes thats not to forget the 6 month return policy. Just keep it a secret so they dont get sold out again lol.... at least not until I get my dv9000t orderd.
